Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait... WAT. (For those who saw inception)
Well, when they play the edith piaf song, its always a step above the dream level below them. and when they are in a deeper form of the dream, everything is slowed down compared to the level above them. so it would make sense that the theme "BUH BUHHHH" would be a slower version of that edith piaf song.
The slow, gloomy, blaring trombones in the main theme of the film score are actually based on an extremely slowed down version of the fast, high pitched trumpets in the beginning of the Édith Piaf song "Non, je ne regrette rien," which is used as a plot device in the film. Furthermore, when music is heard by someone who is currently within a dream, the music is perceived as slowed down. Thus, the main theme of the film score is almost exactly what the beginning of "Non, je ne regrette rien" would sound like to a dreamer.
it wasn't the twist in fight club, it was the various other shit that they stuck in there that you notice, but don't think anything of. And since everyone saw fight club, they assumed they were now film connoisseurs and could pick apart every last detail of every movie.
