i respectfully disagree with everyone on this one.
max hill has cool style and hes a individual but he doesnt throw down like any other pros. he loves those shifty ones, big rail shit and whatever but he cant hit jumps worth shit, he would never get invited to any big comps (not that he could qualify anyways) and he probably wont even get monster much publicity.
he just does different shit, he isnt that good at what everyone else is doing so he wont be in the big spotlight. and when it comes to repping a company, its all about publicity so i dont know why monster sponsored a guy that the major audience isnt even going to see.

yeah but who watches webisodes? the people that already know all about the companies and sponsors. a much broader public watches all the big comps, especially x games and all the European shit.
so max gets good publicity only from the people who are already on the scene and know all the sponsors and whatnot. its not doing them much good to have just another rider who doesnt compete or get his name out to the public much.

As far as the viewers "already knowing about companies and sponsors, blah blah blah", companies masturbate at the thought of a relatively homogenous, like-minded audience that is easily reached and influenced ala the freeskiing demographic. Especially when the audience can be reached so damn cheaply and regularly as in with a webisode.
You really just have no clue what you're talking about and you're assuming that Monster targets athletes like Red Bull does, and/or that they have the same ideas about marketing and brand identity. Just go sit quietly in the corner and let the grownups talk.

I completely disagree.
Here's how I look at it:
Think about skateboarding. I know people get on the "skiing is skiing; stop comparing it to snowboarding/skateboarding/whatever". But the fact is that one of the greatest things about skateboarding is that there's something for everyone. There's styles from the most angry hesher/rocker whatever, to people that put on twice the G act as any skier known for that, to people that are twice as G as anyone you will ever know, to the older vert dudes like Bucky or Tony Hawk. And with that comes a huge amount of tricks and views of the sport and the ability to truly skate like you want and promote that part of skateboarding within the sport.
People may say that's like the difference between the salomon riders and the surface riders or something like that, but it's not even close. Skiing has NOWHERE near the diversity of truly ill individual styles. Snowboarding isn't even there.
Max Hill is one of my favorite skiers to watch ski, and I know people that can't stand him. I think it's sick that there's at least a few people you can look at and really draw contrasts between, and I think it's sick that Max is on the same team Tom is.

which is why i like him, i honestly do not give a shit about the top pro's and comp's, its boring as hell to watch everyone doing the same standard jumps that are popular that year. i dont think ive ever seen a double that i enjoyed to watch. where max usually has something different with every hit. his style is different, the type of skiing he does would get him last place in any big comp. and thats why its so cool.
