Expensive sports

why are all the most fun sports so expensive? I ski play hockey and paintball and skiing is the cheapest. its impossible to keep up with paying for all that! is it just me or are all the really fun sports super expensive?

I was surprised how much stand-up surf boards coast. paddle boards or whatever?


i was looking like oh yeah i be they cost a couple hundred bucks.

how is hockey that expensive... here in quebec i played hockey for 4 years and it wasnt expensive at all.. this year alone i played about 215 hours of hockey and it costed me like under 100$ for equipement replacement and 150 for signing up to my league..

heres how much my equipement cost when i bought it and i gathered all of this in 4 years

helmet; 120
neck guard; 30
shoulder pads; 60
elbow pads; 20
gloves; 80
pants; 120
jock strap; 40
shin pads;60
skates; 350
sticks (about 6 of them); 400

thats abit over 1000$ for playing hockey for 4 years... (might have to change ur skates, helmet and gloves so add another 500 bucks for that).. now thats 2000$ for 4 years of hockey which i split in half with my parents

technical top of the line outerwear is expensive, but needs to be replaced infrequently thankfully.

day passes sure as hell are not cheap. season passes are so much out west with the exception of a few passes (epic pass, like chairs only snowbird pass midweek, shit like that)

ski passes in Michigan are worthless because your season could be 10 weeks long, and really, does it give you that much of a thrill making 6 turns?

the only thing worth paying for at a ski area in michigan is the park.

i'd rather hike up some hills and at least get some fresh snow to play in (in michigan that is)

depends on the kind, my kind of biking = $100 for the bike and maybe $20 for the helmet, and $50-100 in maintenance because sometimes I leave it outside in the rain. no lift tickets, insurance, gas or whatever to pay for.
lowest end skimboard would be like $10 or $20 as far as I know...
$120 for a good quality board, free transportation (bus or walk), a few dollars for wax
even cheaper than biking.
some sports you can do on the cheap. others you can't (think skiing moderately expensive, and polo)

equestrian is really expensive, iv'e never been on a horse in my life, but my parents own a horse stable and it's not cheap by any means

Except for the fact that a good wake boat costs about $90,000 and then a good wakeboard will cost you 300 plus another 200 for bindings and then if you want a wake surf board thats another 500. Then for you boat you have to pay for gas and the tank is 90 gallons. You also have to pay more for matenence, to have it stored and to have it winterized. So I would say wake sports are more expensive than hockey.

Golf: $1500 for clubs + bag, $5000 for membership to a club.  Plus extra for new balls, tournament entry fees, and practice rounds.

scratch that.  $5000 is a family membership.  $2400 gets you an individual membership for one of the cheapest clubs in Denver.

soccer's pretty bad,

300 on new cleats just about every 3 months or so,

2000 for the club

about 3000 for travel to tournaments, and the tournament fees

500 every year for uniforms, warmups, bags, and other stuff

pretty expensive

Everything is expensive to a certain extenet! In Canada you get a $500 grant if your child is enrolled in any organized sports, and that will cover house league hockey fees, soo all you need to buy is the gear that most likely you can find second hand for under $150. I know your spending $800+ on skates, but hockey can be cheap.

Also trust me there are ways to wakeboard and still keep it cheap. There are a ton of wakeboard camps that you can go to for less than a boat, or just find a crew of guys who already have a boat, they'll be stoked on new faces and all you have to do is pitch on gas money.
