i don't understand why everyone hates dane cook so much. he was so big a few years ago (like the biggest any stand up comedian has gotten recently) and he was really funny. retaliation was sooo funny, but after that it just wasn't as good. but people went after him so hard as if he has done something wrong. a TON of shows have taken shots at him, which i think is retarded for a tv show to do. and everyone gives him sooo much shit for doing nothing. he is a comedian, not al queda. if you don't like his stuff don't listen to it, its not that hard. i think he is funny (older stuff especially, new stuff - meh) but i don't give shit to a guy who sole job is to entertain people. he doesn't give shit to anyone else in his acts, just talks about life, but because he makes weird noises and moves around a lot people have to hate on him. i can understand hate for a lot of people for a lot of reasons, but to hate someone because he is not funny enough for you is dumb. and before you tell me that you do or don't hate him, i am not directing this toward anyone, its just in general. its obvious that he gets hate a lot, he even talked about it on one of his shows (one of the only funny parts of the show) if you don't like dane cook, i don't know why you opened this thread in the first place. i like dane cook /rant.

sparknotes: dane cook has gotten a lot of hate lately. since when do people hate comedians?

People hate anything that is overly popular for a period of time. See Apple computers, the entire music industry, etc. It is a combination of a few things including jealously, trying to be unique, etc.

Dane Cook actually seems like a decent guy. Go listen to Joe Rogan's podcast from Tuesday. He had Dane on the show and Dane seemed like a likeable guy. He plays a character on stage. In real life he is quiet, shy, and actually has social anxiety.

no dude, we hate him because he has always sucked as a comedian. it made us angry because there are WAY more deserving comics out there. how would you feel if some kid was becoming super successful off skiing but could barely do a 720 or ski a proper line?

that's becoming more and more widespread. Watch some hbo specials of guys like robin williams from awhile back, and you find the source for 90% of all comic's jokes.

He's obviously doing something right if he's so popular. Maybe he doesn't appeal to your tastes, I mean sure there are other comedians that I prefer too, but he isn't getting so famous because he sucks, but because people like him and think that he's funny.

I don't know about you but I don't think that people like him just because he's popular, but rather because he makes them laugh.

Trust me, if it was a big issue then joe would NOT have him on his show. Joe Rogan is basically the biggest anti plagiarism comedian around. He led the war against mencia and confronted him on stage numerous times. Dane and Joe had a conflict in the past I believe over stolen jokes that Cook allegedly took from Louis CK (the getting hit by a car bit, naming your kid bit, etc.) but I think that was a while ago. He seems like a nice enough guy, plus his material isn't really what makes him funny, it is his presentation (which was unique but isn't so much anymore since there are a bazillion comedians ripping off his style now). I'm not a big fan of his stuff, but he has done a lot for stand up comedy and seems like a decent guy.

Dane was also one of the first guys to be big on self-promotion (Joe Rogan was the first comedian with an active web site but Dane was the first to do a lot of other web stuff including myspace, etc.) A lot of the other "more deserving comics" just stayed in one place and didn't try and build their audience and ultimately they didn't achieve mainstream success. It isn't like Dane was just picked out of the blue for success, he worked hard to build his followers up. I agree there are better stand up comedians out there at least IMO but you gotta give the guy some credit for what he has accomplished.
