Mute Grab

hey NS i have seen many edits latley and i see everyone who spins left crosses their skis and grabs the left one. I find it wierd cuzz  spin left and grab my right ski when its crossed, is that normal???

The grab you're doing is actually "different". You're doing a "lead" or "reverse" mute depending on who you ask.

That is funny though...most people (not most maybe, but lots) grab reverse or lead mute when spinning unnatty.

everyone has there different ways of grabbing and what not. You just feel more comfortable grabbing leading mute instead of just a normal mute. Look at it this way, you do something that not many people do. try getting both down tho, you might find following mute a bit easier when your spinning bigger

alright tnx man, its weird to mee it seems if u spin left grabbing ur left ski would slow the spin down cuzz ur grabbing in the opposite side and kind of not making extra momentum for ur spin, but its wierd cuzz all the pros grab the left ski

If you think about it, it's just the opposite. You spin with your head, hips and torso, which your arms are attached to, so, to grab lead mute, you're actually turning your upper body (and your head slightly most likely looking for the grab) against the spin direction.

Leading Mute...in my opinion more pimp that regular mute cause it's not seen as much, and harder to see over your shoulder. Matt Walker tends to do them a lot.

It sounds like you're obviously just learning, am I right?

If you haven't already, I'd suggest grabbing critical (right hand to the inside edge of your left ski in front of your bindings) first. It's a nice grab to learn before mute because it's essentially the same muscle memory as grabbing regular mute but much easier to grab.

Do whatever is comfortable and preferable to you, but most people (me included) find grabbing regular mute easier and more natural.

Which ever you think feels better. Most people tend to use their trailing hand (so if you spin left, grabbing with your right hand), mostly because it's easier because to grab with your leading hand (left spin, left hand) your shoulder tends to be right in front of your face making it harder to see and harder to spin. But, like I said above, I think leading mutes are sicker, because they're harder, but you may want to learn them both ways, cause it could eventually become harder to spin bigger spins (not sure how high you're spinning, but it does make it tricker to spin high).

nope not learning i can 7 and misty 5 and a bunch of other tricks, and whenever i spin i always grab with my left arm weather its a japan or mute or saftey, the only one i grab with the right is critical. I just noticed like right now while watching all the edits that im like the only one who grabs the leaft ski spinning left so i thought it would be smart to ask u guys cuzz i dont want to look like an idiot doing some weird grab

you shouldn't worry about what it looks like, as long as it's fun for you,
Reverse mute is cooler looking in my opinion, and it's more difficult, looks especially good if you tweak it out.
Most people grab left ski with their right arm spinning left, because that way your arm and shoulders are moving the same direction you're spinning and spotting. There is a thread about this in the "Ask Turpin" cult as well:
