I usually drink Corona or Pabst Blue Ribbon but I don't think that counts.

Guiness is my choice on this one. Or Belle Gueule, it's from Quebec!

If I'm buying beer to drink and enjoy, I don't buy anything that isn't brewed in accordance with the German Purity Law of 1516. Basically put in place super strict laws regarding how beers were brewed, meaning the only difference between beers that follow the law is brewing techniques. Makes for a very vicious and competitive industry, so your shit always has to be high quality.

I also really enjoy Stiegl, an Austrian beer that can be tricky to find. Alexander Keith's Red Amber Ale is also a favorite.

Then you're missing a lot of the Belgian beers, which are not necessarily Reinheitsgebot. And there is plenty of excellent stuff from Belgium- it's the top beer country, in my opinion. Not knocking the German stuff of course, which is also fantastic (and less than $1 / 0.5 L if you buy it at a grocery store).

. . . worst hangovers evar. But okay, they're served in small skinny glasses of 200 mLs (smaller than the usual 0.33 or 0.5 or 1 L), and they'll keep bringing it to you until you put the coaster on top of the glass.

As I understand it, the beer loses its freshness quickly, hence the smaller dose.

And you'll be hard-pressed to find it too far outside of Cologne.

Another tip: drink it on a nice sunny day in one of the myriad cafes just south of the cathedral, good times.

its a german beer that come in a huge bottle, i had it one day in spain and literally fell in love with it, it may have just been the timing on a hot summer day, but i have yet to have a beer be as satisfying as that one

^^^ Franziskaner is very good, you had the Hefeweizen, right?

Now just step back and think a moment, that stuff is mass-produced beer in Germany. You just don't get that level of quality with the mass-produced stuff in the States.

And there are countless brews in nearly every town in the country that are sold only within a 2-3 mile radius of the town. Awesome beers.

I can say that, since I live there.

The best stuff I've had was something in chamonix. It was called something like Mont Blanc dark. It is brewed in the town and only exported in small amounts, only to France and Switzerland

Duvel; quite common belgian beer, also quite strong but really delicious, translated it means "devil"

and ofcourse, our belgian pride, rumoured to be the best, or at least one of the best, beers in the world;

every person can call up the abbey once a year and order six bottles of their beer, no more!
it's because there's so high demands, but the friars can't/wont brew more than they do now ...
and every person should be able to call and order his beer for personal use so it doesn't gets bought out by exclusive restaurants :)

I'm also a fan of:
Saranac
Pete's Wicked...
Capital Brewery
Red Hook
New Castle


...and Natty Boh for the cheap stuff.
