if you want to actually live in aspen it is going to be expensive. i live down valley in carbondale, and it is typical for people to find a place down valley (way cheaper) and commute up. the four Aspen Snowmass mountains are great. combined you have just about as much as you want, as far as urban, they are up and down the valley just got to keep an eye out.

^ definitely look down the valley, much cheaper. Aspen has some amazing BC and park so don't be weary about the terrain, get stoked!

yeah try to find a place in basalt, glenwood, or carbondale, much cheaper.
as said above there are plenty of urbans, and if you are reeaaally good def hit the huge 4 kink or so on the way there (the one at the gas station, anyone who lives down valley knows what im talking about).
and if there is fresh pow, ski highlands bowl (or anything at highlands), the cirque at snowmass, or hanging valley. i hear ajax is also good on a pow day, but ive never skied it when there has been any fresh.

also, out of curiosity, why does aspen have a bad rep out east?

every new york socialite and his brother has a multimillion dollar house in aspen that he uses two weeks a year. out east a lot of folks think its a land of white escalades, bogner, and would be racer dads.

I will be living right up the street from the Viceroy.  We have one extra bedroom available.  Its not cheap, at all, but you really couldnt be closer.  PM me if you would like to hear more about the living,ski,nightlife scene out here.

No one in Colorado even knows the East exists...so who cares?  You can come join the fun of hitting mountains instead of pathetic hills.  Why would I care what anyone from that kind of terrain has to say?

yea for sure, the parks are sick and theres sooo many rich cougars running around...not hard to find one thatll pay your rent

People that live in the valley are really chill. People that vacation in the valley are not always chill.

I'm not going to tell you where to ski because then my powder stashes would be gone. Check out the park though, it's awesome.

Trust me, you don't have to go down valley to find an affordable place. Look in the the Aspen Time's classifieds section for extra rooms for rent. People are always looking since there's so many seasonal workers there. Check out the Season's Four/Woodbridge condos in Snowmass too and the Merolt (glorified) apartments in Aspen.

Don't go BC unless you reallllly know what you're doing. You won't need to go backcountry man, you're from the east coast. How can you say you want to go BC when you don't even know the local terrain of the area yet? Have you even skied a real mountain before with varying terrain?

As far as the night scene. Pregame before you go out. Make friends with lifties and ski instructors since they always know what's up. Also, it's Aspen, so it's inherently expensive. As far as Aspen goes, Little Annie's, Bad Billy's and Hunter Bar are all relatively cheap but anywhere else is overpriced but still fun to check out. In Snowmass, Mountain Dragon, Base Camp and Zane's are the main options but neither stays open late. I'll warn you though, if you go out consistently, you'll learn really quick who's a local and who isn't. Dead season sucks. The dope thing about living in Snowmass though, is that the Buses run to and from Aspen until 2am and are always free unless you're going down valley.

I'm friends with the owner/all the workers at Hunter bar and let me tell you, the Argentinians won't give you the time of day in a bar/club unless you can speak Spanish too.

But seriously, it's got a bad rep so you probably should just go to Canada for the season.

Aspen's a sister city with Buenos Aires and Bariloce, so yes, there's a TON of argentinians. Lots of Brazillians too. I challenge you to find an argentinian who's not smoking hot.
