I Need Help Buying A Computer (PC)

NS I need your help deciding on a new computer. I built a computer from parts probably 10 years ago, needless to say I am a little out of date. I have a work laptop and my laptop I bought for college which is way out of data and I want a new desktop powerhouse PC. I want to spend under a grand and don’t want a Mac. I have been looking on newegg for a couple days and seem to know what I can get for the money so basically just looking for the best deal out there. Not sure if newegg is even the place, would I be better off building a computer with my limited knowledge? Is there other places to look? (I dont really have the time to build a computer either)

So
1)Desktop PC (don’t need a monitor)
2)Able to run pretty much any game and upgradeable as far as motherboard slots
3)Reliable
4)Best bang for buck

$1k is a great budget for building your own. You're not gonna have close to what you want unless you build one. Best bang for your buck, better quality parts, and you can choose exactly what you need with the future in mind.

If you built one before, you can do it again. I bet it's easier to do now than when you did it last. I was able to put my rig together using only the motherboard (ASUS) manual.

if you aren't gonna build it yourself, check www.buyxg.com or www.ibuypower.com

you pick the parts, they build it and ship it. if you are gonna be gaming, you are gonna want to get the best graphics card you can get with your money. CPU can be knocked back for a better graphics card, since you can always overclock and stuff. RAM, just stick to 4 gigs, it'll be fine. Case, just pick one that looks cool. For Power supply, google the graphics card you are getting and see what it is rated for, and get more watts than that. Message me, i'd configure one for you

For a grand would be tough to do for me, video editing = me want 8gigs ram and a nice processor, and have to hackentosh it. Which i'm so doing when I get the money

pretty much, i went to this crazy custom pc shop and asked for the ultimate editing machine for around a grand, then took the part list and got it for cheaper at tigerdirect.

Intel i5 3.20 Ghz processor

8Gb RAM

1Tb Hardrive

nVidia GeForce Graphics Card (I don't know shit about this, but the sales rep said it was good)

i got keyboard/monitor/mouse and everything for 1700 (with shipping/taxes), itd be way cheaper without the accessories.

You could try one of those stores where they help you build it
They tell you what would be good and they order the shit home, build it, and then test it to see if everything works

I did that ^_^ All I can say is my computer > Alienware's best

I have been going back and forth on this one. I really need a new computer. My current machine is a Dell inspiron 9100, which has actually been pretty awesome. I got this thing like 6 years ago and it can still run SC2 (at low settings) it recently has been overheating but I am going to take it apart, put some new thermal gel, and clean the internal fan and from what I have read online I should get a good ~10 deg C drop in the processor temp.

But still looking to get a new machine. I have been building different set ups on ibuypower and I have a few questions.

1) AMD processors seem to be much cheaper, should I go this way, what are the pros cons?

2) Nvidia or ATI?

I have a shit load more questions but I am going to talk to the IT guy at work today and see what I can figure out.

1. i personally don't find too big of a difference between intel and amd, i got amd because it was cheaper.

and 2. again, not much of a difference. but if you are going to be doing SLI or crossfire you need to have both of the video cards nvidea, or ati.

I would build your own, as others have suggested. And newegg is a good way to go about it.

To answer #1, I would try and build something around an i5 or i7 processor (the latter more so). If you are going to put the time in money in to it, I would give it a touch more.
