21 virus on a computer. HELP

So my girlfriend has 21 different viruses on her computer. Has anyone dealt with this many? Staples is saying she has to pay $150 to wipe the computer and restore everything. Were currently trying to backup the computer and figure out how to possibly save some money. Also what are some good spy/ad wear programs that are free so once the computer is clean I can show her how to keep it that way. Any suggestions?

how do u get 21 viruses? it sounds like she clicks on some shit thats pretty obvious that it contains a virus but anyways mcafee is good but u have to pay for it.

1. Boot comp in safe mood...Hopefully you can do this.
2. Download http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
3. Install that ^ and run it...full scan.
4. Let is finish and than do show results > delete viruses (I forgot what it's called but it's pretty obvious)
5. Restart comp and enjoy no more viruses.

All this assuming her comp isn't super fucked and can still boot.

How did you know it has 21 viruses? Did staples tell you or did the computer?

The reason I ask is I had some fake spyware program install itself and claim I had all these viruses a while back. The only virus was the program.

Just reset your harddrive yourself. If you want to wipe your harddrive and restore windows back to factory settings, just get a strong magnet and run it along each side oneway 8 times or so and you'll be set. There's absolutely no reason to pay $150.

- superantispyware

should all be free, but youre prob just gonna have to wipe it all, you may be able to save select stuff by burning it on some disks or usbs. idk about throwing it all on an external because that may just reinfect the comp. but im not sure i really dont know anything about computers.

Ya my dad had the same thing, took his computer in and they said he had something like 18 viruses and it would cost him a shitload.. brother looked at it, there were 2 and it took him 20 minutes to get rid of them

This is definitely the way to go, but I'd say also get a few other programs to run (avira antivir, adaware, spybot search and destroy) because in my experience, each finds a few different things. If that still doesn't work, just back everything up that you need, boot from your windows install disk(usually comes with the computer, to boot from it just watch the screen while your computer starts and look for what key it says to press to enter boot options), have it quick format the hard drive and reinstall windows. Wiper the hard drive and reinstalling windows is like using a bazooka to kill a fly, but if nothing else, it works.

DO NOT

pay $150 to wipe the hardrive. If she bought it new you just need to look in the original box and find the restore cd. You put it in and follow the instructions and you can wipe the harddrive easily by yourself. Ive done it multiple times and its not hard at all. Much better than paying the people at staples to do it. Also if she doesnt have the disk she can buy them from the computer company for like $30 and then you can do it yourself.

this JUST happened to me, took it to my brother, said it was completely avoidable, if i just upated it, and that i would be better off buying a new computer...hopefully your gf doesnt have to get a new computer, sucks.

can you check restore points on the computer and restore a date from before the viruses were on the computer

i wouldn't back up everything as the viruses will probably backed up and then reemerge

the malwarebytes comment is rpobably the best thing to do

DO NOT PAY $150!!!!

Yank the hard drive out, buy a SATA to USB cable.  ($20 on newegg)  Throw up a firewall on a virus free PC and plug the drive in.  Scan with AVG & AdAware.  Plug the drive back in. 

I do this routinely for my friends that watch too much porn and make bank off em.

ignance. you mean this is why you're going to run Mac OS? Because you can put Windows on a Macbook. Really, the only way to get viruses is not knowing how to run the fucking internet. No, you are not that 1,000,000th customer, and no, there is no prize. And stop downloading limewire porn and copypasta ing links from 4chan spam.

Viruses are for retarded people that can't use computers. And why would you run Mac OS anyway? It's all flash and no substance in a SEVERELY overpriced bundle. Really, you pay for the chassis and not much else when you get an apple.

i had around 30 somthing viruses once. i literally bought 4 different virus protection programs because they kept being disabled by the viruses. so i had about 3 or so virus scans going at the same time while the icons on my desktop were just disapearing i thought i was done fer. then mcafee came thru real strong and killed like some giant virus and things started to turn around for me.

sparknotes: run 4 different virus scan programs at the same time and you will be freed.

Norton has to be the worst fucking anti-virus in the world. AND you have to pay for it. Get either AVG-free, or Anti-Vir free. Both are WAY better. Also get Spybot Search and Destroy. It's fantastic.

back up your files in safe mode then do a system restore yourself which puts the comp back to factory settings like when it arrived. google how to do it for your computer make. sorry if this was already said I didnt ready anything past the first 2 posts haha

omg do not pay 150 bucks. All you need to do is reformat your computer, problem solved. Google it I am sure there detailed instructions you can print out.

getting pwned by the free porn 2? i had 47 viruses on mine b4 it wouldnt function anymore... Gave it to an asian computer techy friend, no my computer works. He put eset nod32 antivirus on it and havent had a virus since, can enjoy my pleasures w/o worrying

The people at staples said it was 21 viruses, there was at least 4 Trojan horses and various other viruses. She didnt want to wait and decided to pay the $150. Not my money though. But what is the best free spy/adware that i can get for her after she gets the computer back?

sounds like she doesnt have any protection on her computer at all. avg, norton 360, are both good ones, but you can find some cheap ones that get the job done fine.
