Cameras similar to the panasonic ag-hmc40

Are there are cameras similar to the AG-HMC40 but cost less with the same or better performance besides dslr's?

Well it's kinda in an odd spot between all the pro cameras and the sub $1000 consumer models. What are you looking for in a camera?

a lot of manual settings, hd, good quality, preferably not tape based. i wont be filming just skiing. i will film events such as bar mitzvahs and will use it for school. also to be able to shoot with 60 frames per second

its an HV30 minus use of tapes and manual adjustments.

Good cam to start on.

That's honestly the worst option he could ever pick. It has very little control and it has a hard drive.

I like the idea of a used Panasonic pro camera. the hmc40 is like a mini hmc150, which is a new flash based hvx200. So if you like those Panasonic cameras, you have options.

If you'll be shooting in controlled light, the HMC40 is a great option - because its CMOS (I think) it actually is sharper than the HMC150 in bright light, or at least so I've read on DVXuser. Its in low light where the 150 excels and the 40 kind of falls off.

The 40 is a great cam for the money and so far proves to have been pretty good to those who have used it. I would do some research for yourself: DVXuser has a whole forum dedicated to the HMC40, so use it:

ya, I have been researching for a while and have decided on the hmc40 or 150 if i have the money. i was just wondering if anyone new a camera similar for less. off topic but do you guys think the realease of the af100? will lower the prices pf panasonics other cameras?
