Rhode Island?

So I'm planning a trip with my friend to Rhode Island near the end of August. I'm looking for some help from anyone that has any experience there. We are going to be camping, so if you can offer any campsites that are near beaches that would be excellent. Any town specifically we should be looking at? And any other great things to do while there. It should be kid friendly, as this is sort of a family kind of adventure. Thanks! =)

HAHHAHAHAH this is too funny, i almost made this tread last week...
I just got back to my desk 20 min ago from Rhode Island...
I had a blast, if you need any good places to eat in town or anything let me know.
I would check out Mystic which is a sea port. the good part about this is, its enclosed. Just this week the coast guard has tagged 10 great white sharks in the ocean.

Narragansett beach has some good surf and is very nice, but can get crouded. The newport beaches are okay, but often have red tide(gross) and the surf isn't quite as good.

Roger Williams zoo would be pretty fun if your with kids/your family. Also if you want to go sailing, you can rent a J22 down at sail newport and get someone to show you around on the water. I know most of the people who work there too and they are all very friendly and helpful.

Fort adams is pretty interesting to explore and free too. In terms of nightlife, dockside in newport has live reggae music on sundays with half price cover.

For restaurants, it depends where you go. In newport, you should check out the Brick alley pub in downtown. If youre over near naragansett, definitely check out crazy burger. It was on food network last year for their world class burgers, and try the homemade ketchup they have, its bomb!

Also, shouldn't this be in regionals?haha. Let me know if you have any other questions. Im in Italy now, but I should be back in RI from the 12th until i leave for school on the 21st or so.

This is a pretty nice campsite. The closest beach to there is East Beach in Charleston its a little quieter than other beaches in the area and you only have to pay for parking unlike many other beaches down there.

if you like exploring tunnels and stuff like that, fort weatherall in Jamestown is pretty ill, lots of abandoned tunnels and overgrown bunkers to get into, there are trails leading around most of them, bring flashlights.

just got back from a weekend there with my girlfriend. its $20 a night, but they book up fast on the weekends. its really low key, very quiet, and a 5 minute drive to misquamicut, the state beach. parking for the beach ranges from 10-20 bucks a day. theres also a lot of other beaches nearby.

the campground is really cool, the sites are very spread out and you do have a sense of privacy. however, they only have a few different actual bathrooms (they have portopotties scattered though). the bathrooms are cleaned 3x a day though.

its on a small lake where you can kayak, canoe, fish, ect.

the only problem I found is that being a state park, they don't allow alcohol. if they "catch" you with it, you have to leave. people were drinking that I saw, but its more of a family place. and it doesn't have tons of rednecks like a lot of other campgrounds we've been to

Newport is always great for some good food and a fun time at the beaches/cliffwalk/ocean drive park. I have a timeshare there and i'll be heading down on saturday.

Watch Hill is always a nice place to chill. Also there is a stretch of beach between east beach (watch hill) and misquamicut beaches where you can do whatever you want as long as you do disturb the little birds that live there. Only problem is you cant drive to the spot so setting up camp with a bunch of food would take multiple .25-.5 mile trips. Also depending on hurricane season you would have to worry about waves washing you out at night. But i find that www.northeastsurfing.com is usually correct when it comes to wave heights and tides.

burlingame is the probably one of the best places to camp and its easy to reserve spots there. also narragansett is THE nicest town beach around there, midweek isnt ussually that crowded unless its like 100 degrees.

PM me if you want more info on stuff around there, my mom went to URI and i go down there alot during the summer so i think i could offer some help

im in block island right now
its a 1 hour ferry out of pt judith
its def kid friendly and u dont even need a car to get around, but idk if theres anywhere to camp

pretty nice area

he's right.   the beach is a 5 min walk from the campsite.  it's dope and mad fun, tons of other people camping there as well and fun is had by all.

No. Providence is the shittiest city you'll ever see. The only good place in RI is Newport. Otherwise, don't waste your money.

how long do you plan to be there for?

providence, right in the city is nice and there's plenty to do. east side has thayer st which is inside of brown's campus, wickenden st, and wayland square which all have good shops and restaurants.

for beaches/ocean don't bother w/ newport. it's super touristy. scarborough beach/point judith/galilee and also naragannsett

newport has some sweet old mansions that are cool to take tours of and what not if you're into that

Watch Hill is awesome, I just moved here and I work down on east beach. It's a great place to come for a day, surfing can be good, lots of shops and good food in town (st. clairs has bomb homemade ice cream), and I'm sure your kids will love the country's oldest carousel. Only thing is parking is a bitch and there's not really any place to stay overnight. If you rep some NS stuff on the beach, you may or may not hear a chad's gap call out from the maintenance crew!

i've only ever been to naragansett but there was a huge park and shit we went to that was dope. and naragansett bay had some of the gnarliest conditions I done ever sailed in.

Im in newport right now
its a cool place, beaches are nice, but after a day or two, we are so beyond bored. the town is just the same.... the beaches dont have very big waves so they arent to fun.

now providence, or at least parts of it, is beautiful. i had some amazing italian food there too. but like there was this River Fire festival when i was there and we had a view of this concert and shit right from our hotel, it was beautiful.
