Quick ski size question...

so im 5'6 /5'7 and im like 135 pounds. considering i will still grow a little bit by next season and the season after, i was wondering if i should buy the 169 K2 domains or the 179 K2 domains.
right now i have 167 afterbangs and they are up to the middle of my forehead.
also, i will probably be mounting marker jesters or looks (help me decide)

I think 179.  I always go longer since I'm still growing a bit too.  And it depends on what kind of Looks you're getting, if they're Look Pivots, then get them, if it's px12 jib or something, probably Jesters.

Without a doubt get 179. Skiing long skis is nice, and if you grow you'll be really happy.

Well if you're talking about look Pivots, get those.  They're the same as FKS, which is one of the best bindings on the market.  But I don't know much about Looks other bindings, but I've heard good and bad things about the PX12.  Jesters are a much higher din than PX12s, so I would suggest to try getting FKS or Look Pivots, then maybe go for the Jesters.  Or you could look for some Head Mojo 15s/Tyrolia Peak 15s/4FRNT Deadbolt 15s, or 18s if you need your din high.

yeah marker jesters were my first choice, but i didnt know too much about look pivots. and if im a really aggressive skier, would a 12 work be too weak?

If you have to ask...
Pivots 14 are good bindings with a DIN-range that probably fits you. Griffons are pretty weak construction-wise

Some might, some might not.  I'm 5'10" and 140 pounds and growing and I'm on a 15 din binding.  I'm also a very agressive skier.  I don't think I need to be on a din that high, but I got a great deal on it so I took it.  The din range is 5-15.  But just because it's a 15 din binding doesn't mean my din has to be that high though.  I'll probably have my din set at 7.  If I could, I would've gotten some FKS 120s or 140s, but they're harder to find.  So to answer your question, not all 12 din bindings would be too weak.  FKS 120/Look Pivot 120 would probably be great for you.  They're a strong binding that can take abuse, which is what you want.

You don't want to be skiing at the lower or upper extremes of your din range... Thus you need more binding then a 12, if you would be skiing at a 11 or 12 din. Also, some of us adjust our din based on conditions... I'm 5'10 200lbs. If I'm skiing aggrissive bumps I ski at 12, anything less I pre release. I ski the park and all mountain at 9, and I go down to 8 for backcountry booters because that is when I tend to get twisted up for some reason...

You're supposed to stay at least 2 away from the lowest and highest, even though I feel that might be just a myth but I still go with it anyways.  For example though, if you have a 5-15 din binding, you should be at or within dins 7-13.  Which means you shouldn't be between 5-7 and 13-15 with that particular binding.  Same thing works with a 4-12 din binding.  You should be at or within dins 6 and 10.  I hope that was clear for OP.

yes thank you. so if i were to get look pivot 14's would probably be an ok choice? i want the binding to be strong, but i also want it to be light. is there a noticeable difference in the weight of the looks and the jesters?

Look Pivot 14's would be a great choice.  I'm almost certain the Jesters are lighter, but the Pivot 14's are better in every other way.  I really don't think that when skiing, there is a really noticeable difference between bindings.  It's just a couple extra grams, not that big of a deal.

I Own both the jesters and fks 14s. One other thing to note is that the fks/pivots don't have much adjustability. I have found the jesters to have a good bit. I'm not sure if that is a big enough factor to switch your decision, just something to be aware of.

That's true actually, I forgot about that.  FKS and Pivots aren't very good in that department.

I have to strongly disagree with the 179.  At 135lbs. a 179 is too much ski for you, especially in a k2 which is going to run more like 183-184. Unless you are going to gain 40lbs and grow 4 inches immediately i would suggest the 169.  There seems to be this trend of people feeling they need longer skis, which is fine if you ski 100% park where you aren't making many sharp or difficult turns and center mount them, but at 135lbs outside of the park you are going to struggle with a ski that long. Just my two cents.

I'm 135 lbs, 5'10", and growing and I'll be riding a 181.  I like the longer skis because I ski fast, and I like my skis to be stable at high speeds.  Also, the skis I'll be riding have rocker, so it's necessary to get the longer ski, even though 181 really isn't even long for me.  Also, the K2 Domains have rocker, which will make them ski shorter, more playful, so I think it will fit for the OP.  And there's only a 4 inch difference between the 179, and 169, not that much.  I think the OP will be happier with the longer ski.

Fair enough, but keep in mind you are 4 inches taller than the OP, thats quite a bit more leverage on a ski. To each their own, I just think he would have a better time on the shorter ski, rather than go longer for a  small benefit.

im thinking the 179's. if you think you will be doing more growing soon then yea you dont want the 169's..
