Snowboarding rant.

i don't fucking get this new trend with a select few snowboarding crews to let their big goal of promoting getting fucked up overshadow the talent in their videos. the teaser below is chalked full of talent and really dope shots, but the shots of downing 40's (whilst driving) and smoking weed left me not stoked on their movie. dont get me wrong, i have absolutely no problem with whatever lifestyle choice you want to make, but pushing that shit onto impressionable teens as "cool" makes you just as annoying as the latterday saints. i dont know how the fuck these guys maintain relationships with sponsors, aside from "tatsville: tatoos, piercing, barber". i hope skiing steers clear of this bullshit. /rant

that was a pretty sweet teaser. much better riding than i was expecting. and the shot of designated driver was pretty sweet too. you make a good point, but by saying that this is a "new trend" for snowboarders just proves your're a fucking moron. Snow and skate vids have been like this forever and so have ski vids post warren miller. saucer boy? the c-crew? (hmm what does the "c" stand for?) 4bi9 (it doesn't represent just white kids trying to be black)?

so in closing, you're an idiot and are calling the kettle black. and you should watch this vid of the helgasons crew killing it at superpark hungover/drunk

what about saucer boy from msp and shane mcconkey? the guy had a bottle of jack daniels and riding garbage snow off of cliffs with a saucer. logan, what do you think of this. an idol skier with jack daniels for parts and parts of movies, minutes upon minutes of jack daniels impressions on the fragile young minds.

Quite a lot of fuss for something that wasn't really that big of a deal to be honest. I agree with what you're saying, but after watching the trailer in the original post, I think you're making a big fuss out of nothing really.

Did it ever occur to you that Saucerboy is a fucking joke, and OBVIOUS image of a moronic gaper. The entire joke is you probobly shouldn not ride a saucer and snowblade while intoxicated, which is why it's kind of funny. In other news it is totally HILARIOUS how butt hurt you are over Logan sharing his opinion. Snowboard videos focused on partying have been around forever, shit, who remembers the "whiskey" videos?

But hey, how dare you bastards bring saucer boy into this... It's a ridiculous argument anyways, considering the fact that saucer boy was a created character playing a role. That's like saying that Jonny Depp promotes smuggling coke because of his character in "Blow".

He was wasted, but what does that have to do with these guys argument? The difference is whether or not he appeared as himself drunk (which he didn't), or as a made up character who's shtick was being constantly hammered.

If MSP had put shots of "Shane McConkey" (not saucerboy), pounding Jack Daniels and getting wasted while driving, or before basejumping, then likely people might have had an issue with that too.

Leave saucerboy out of it, it's a different thing entirely.

At some point growing up, you realize this shit is what sells. What is a main reason the snowboarding industry has more money than the freeskiing industry? Snowboarding has an image. Regardless of what that image is, as it would surely be impossible to define, it is recognized by the general public and they like it. What image does freeskiing have to the general public? Perhaps an lol wut? Or they just bunch freeskiers in with the rest of skiers and racers and weekend warriors and society isn't attracted to such a bland image.

I'm not saying in any way that you need to openly drink and do drugs and rebel to have an image, but as an industry snowboarding seems to have much more successfully created a persona to society that is more than just doing some flippy spinnys in the air.

I'm also not saying that having more money as an industry is better, or that having a certain image is better, or that snowboarding is better. But having an image is so crucial to being recognized by your peers, or the ski industry, or mainstream media. Unless your the best of the best, you won't gain recognition if you don't have an image.

I mean shit, the fact that the guys in the OP's post actually had enough of an impact to gain this much attention on NS (both positive and negative) is a testament to the success that having an image creates.

So allow these guys to put some personality into their edits to at least attempt to compete with the hundreds of other extremely talented skiers and snowboarders
