i don't fucking get this new trend with a select few snowboarding crews to let their big goal of promoting getting fucked up overshadow the talent in their videos. the teaser below is chalked full of talent and really dope shots, but the shots of downing 40's (whilst driving) and smoking weed left me not stoked on their movie. dont get me wrong, i have absolutely no problem with whatever lifestyle choice you want to make, but pushing that shit onto impressionable teens as "cool" makes you just as annoying as the latterday saints. i dont know how the fuck these guys maintain relationships with sponsors, aside from "tatsville: tatoos, piercing, barber". i hope skiing steers clear of this bullshit. /rant

Party snake puts out my favorite trailers. Everyone i ride with smokes, drinks, and can get a little rowdy. You can completely flip this around on edits with rap music and random made up hand signs of fake gangs. Personally party snake edits get me stoked and remind me of the winter drinking, smoking, metal, and bombing runs.

sorry to sound redundant but that's kinda shallow. as much as i like outdoor ed and grad, these films have got to be more than just about watching "fun". i know skiers do this stuff just as much as the next guy but why do we have to watch it? i get enough of that at parties. Do we really need to see the athletes we respect get their trash plowed just so we know they're actually human?

I agree with this. furthermore, my home mountain bred this crew, and I am proud to say they smoke/vomit more than the op's video. there is some 10 year old kid that hangs around with them too. now, that's sketch

It's just preference man. I would personally rather watch a ski video with 60% skiing and the rest non-skiing, provided the non-skiing is well-filmed and actually entertaining to watch. Watching crazy trick after crazy trick is boring as hell to me, no matter how good the skiing is. Take the skiing lifestyle completely out of the equation and it just becomes "stunts."

The issue of getting trashed on camera, as Logan put it, is a moral one. Nobody is denying that kids are impressionable, because they certainly are. The truth is that a large part of growing up is learning that you are responsible for your own actions. I see middle-aged people blaming their behavior on how they were raised, the media, and their surroundings. It's despicable. If a person's inability to delineate the difference between influence and cause is at such a sizable degree that they inflict harm upon self or others, their actions are entirely their fault.

In terms of entertainment, getting wasted on camera can go two directions. If the direct focus or purpose of the shot is to show the rider drinking/smoking, then I will agree it is stupid. If the purpose is to show a funny act that happens to involve drinking/smoking, then there really isn't anything wrong with it.

I'm sure you listened to rap as a teen without shooting anybody. Why? Because contrary to your argument you, along with many others, had the common sense to make your own decisions.

I watched the trailer after reading the post and only saw 3 or 4 quick shots of guys drinking beers, it didn't seem that excessive.

If the guy drinking while driving was on his first beer then I see no problem. Under the limit = just enjoying a beer. They could have been out in the middle of nowhere just getting a headstart heading back to their cabin.

Alright, alots been said already so I'll try to make this a good post.

The only thing I see wrong with the video posted by the OP is the dude drinking while behind the wheel of a car. Drinking and driving is dumb kids, don't do it. However, as far as the whole showing drinking/drug use in ski and snowboard edits/trailers/movies, what bothers me is when they show it just to show that they drink or smoke. Cool dude, so do a whole shit ton of people. However, if your showing random drunken debauchery, that shit's funny! And if someone happens to have a joint or a blunt in a shot, well, they have a joint or blunt in the shot. Blowing smoke in the camera? Meh, one or two shots doesn't bother me, just don't overdo it.
With that said, this isn't really any new trend. I mean, Glen Plake and those dudes back in the day partied harder than most present day skiers, and they showed it in their movies too. Yeah, young kids are for sure impressionable, but they're not THAT impressionable. I grew up watching ski movies and they showed skiers partying, yet I didn't really drink or smoke in high school. I tried it, sure, but decided it wasn't really my thing. The kids are smarter than you think.

Logan, what really bothers me about this thread is how you kinda went back on yourself and tried to flip it, like you were trying to piss off the kids on here. Obviously kids on here are gonna get too worked up about it (I'm no better, this post is already way too long) but to sink to their level and take it personally isn't the best thing to do. That said, I'm stoked to see Eye Trip and the shots you got.


sparknotes: don't drink and drive, kids are smarter than you think, don't say something and then twist it around, watch Eye Trip when it comes out, the OP is a better skier than most of the kids posting in this thread.

i'm not trying to go back on what i said, i meant it. the only thing i regret is typing it hastily after i saw red when the dude was downing a 40 while he was driving. had i sat back and thought for a bit, i probably wouldn't have even made a thread at all and kept that shit to myself.  my biggest mistake was forgetting the audience that i was typing to, or ranting at all on the internet, because its fucking pointless. i never told anybody to not drink or smoke, do whatever the fuck you want.

and thank you for the kind words on eye trip, i cant wait to see it either!

I have no problem with party-shots and what not. Hell, look at Scandalous! a bunch of years back. Tons of drinking and smoking in that movie, and I loved the movie bigtime, and it did not send me into a downward spiral.

That said, I do think the drinking and driving shot was both stupid, but also in terribly poor taste.

Well, this could go two ways. If your trying to get picked up by technine or 9thward, then it's probably gonna help your chances. On the other hand, if Shaun White was caught smoking weed or something, I'm sure plenty of mainstream media would have a field day. Look at what happened with Michael Phelps. So, basically, if your trying to be on Shaun White's level, yeah it's gonna hurt you, otherwise, it might actually help you.

I think lifestyle shots trying to be all G in edits are dumb, but only because its snow sports and therefore the least gangster thing you could possibly do. Not because of some dumb moral objection. If they want to film themselves drinking beer who gives a shit?
