Snowboarding rant.

i don't fucking get this new trend with a select few snowboarding crews to let their big goal of promoting getting fucked up overshadow the talent in their videos. the teaser below is chalked full of talent and really dope shots, but the shots of downing 40's (whilst driving) and smoking weed left me not stoked on their movie. dont get me wrong, i have absolutely no problem with whatever lifestyle choice you want to make, but pushing that shit onto impressionable teens as "cool" makes you just as annoying as the latterday saints. i dont know how the fuck these guys maintain relationships with sponsors, aside from "tatsville: tatoos, piercing, barber". i hope skiing steers clear of this bullshit. /rant

i completely agree man, its cool if you want to do all of that stuff and what not and i don't care but don't film a movie about getting fucked up. They are ruining the already bad name for action sports athletes. As far as the movie goes i dont want to see people drinking and doing drugs i want to see snowboarding and skiing its ridiculous

umm there were about 4-5 shots of them drinking beer and one shot of a guy blowing smoke which was probably a cig. it really wasn't that bad

This is a rant I'd generally agree with you on Logan...but I didn't find that particular trailer all that obnoxious with it. And for my money I'd rather see some nerd flash his bottle of Olde E, than a shot of a heli taking off, landing, refueling, or having sex with another heli.

sorry logan to burst your glass bubble, but kids have been drinking, snowboarding, and smoking since the early 80s. all you did with this thread is post what you despise to more "impressionable kids." life goes on and so will the smokin, drinking, and good ol' teenage times for these young lads. ease up and get real....

touche... maybe i made this thread hastily but i just found myself extremely irritated that for my tastes, the talent of riding in the edit was overshadowed by their vibe. and i don't want anyone to take this as a hate thread on snowboarding as a whole, i split my time between paroosing edits on ns and transworld. that teaser just pissed me off.

I'd agree with you, they're definitely trying to go for a certain image that doesn't really need to be tied to presenting snowboarding TALENT. Sure I'm sure they're all chill as fuck, but they're also talented. You can produce dope edits and dope movies without simultaneously trying to prove that your "deviant family" is full of "no gentlemen".

well logan, sometimes kids say stupid shit as in the case of you making this thread, i was just pointing out that god has given all of us free will (im trying to speak to you in your terms), and these kids in the teaser are exercising it. if this teaser makes you go out and drink, smoke, and cab 270 onto u dub kink, well, have at it, cuz i know a ton of teenagers that are just smoking and drinking that don't even know about snowboarding. and for the record, your bubble is not broken, you are still immersed.

I agreed with your rant until I watched the edit in your post. I saw a beer here and there, and 2 seconds of exhaling smoke. This edit might be more of what you're trying to describe. I still don't see a problem with it, but I wonder why the sponsors are still hanging tight if their name is associated with this.

do whatever you want, but dont blatantly show it. i didnt watch the edit (at work) but if youre gonna drink and drive, thats fine, but keep it under wraps cause that shits seriously dangerous and some kids might get the wrong idea.

this is actually a good point, but chug life is not nearly as bad as some of these.  in one episode they give a very obvious hint that they are smoking buds, but they still never show anything.  and its not a movie trailer is a internet episode.  also, my meter is picking up some sarcasm anyway so don't hate on me, i'm just adding to the discussion

Lucas Magoon has lived a 1,000 lives. Look around, there are millions of people who don't do shit everyday. Lucas ollied off a balcony onto plywood on a couch, stomp, and moved on. Sure he was in a coma, but people all around are living in a coma on the daily. There is so much truth to the cliche saying, "life is a journey not a destination." You only live once and Lucas drinking and driving might might be the guy who ends your life today, better get after it!

I don't mind that stuff if it contributes to the story, but I will agree that it is annoying to show skater-cam shots of getting fucked up when its completely out of context.

The argument about the impressionable young teens is asinine. Kids are going to get fucked up no matter what you do about it, and ignoring the elephant in the room doesn't do anything. Filmmakers shouldn't have to cater their work to people who are too retarded to make their own life decisions. This is skiing, not the fucking Disney Channel.

don't be such a prude if you want good wholesome fun stay off the internet and out of action sports... go play rowing or chess... the sooner you learn that people who do actions sports often enjoy drinking heavily smoking weed and often harder drugs the sooner you'll realize that it's not really a "sport" and get over or out of it.

That was sick, but I don't know if the movie is about partying or snowboarding.

Skiing/boarding and drinking/smoking tend to go together, but they aren't really related.  Not everyone in action sports smokes/drinks, just like not everyone who smokes enjoys skiing or other action sports.
I think we should leave them separated.

oh yeah, dub post but.  Theres nothing that cool about getting fucked up and I don't see why its such a big deal in these edits.  Pretty much everyone does at least once in a while, its not hard.  Show something more impressive and unique like sick riding.  I can watch a bunch of kids getting fucked up anytime we get a bunch of people together.
Go to the store and buy beer, go buy some weed off someone.  Smoke, drink, and have a good time, and make sure to film it.  Seriously, its not hard and apparently your edits will be better.

i really dont get this new fad in snowboarding, the trashy, douche bag tool thing. its annoying as fuck. half my snowboarder friends are getting nose and lip piercings, stupid tattoo's all over the place, starting to smoke alot, cant go a day without getting drunk, and are turning into huge tool's. ive literally lost like 4 friends to this retarded fad.
and fuck lucas magoon, he's a fucking tool and seems to be leading this fad. he can suck a fat dick, he has the most forced style ive ever seen, he is literally my least favorite person in any action sport..

i follow you there, but i don't think that just impressive riding makes up for a good edit ...

its the combination good riding, good filming/editting, and having fun and being able to show it to the viewer, especially the last part!

to prove my point i get more stoked over movies like Hot Lunch or outdoor graduation, then i get over Claim or EDIAS or Contrast ...
Just because you can see them having fun while in the last three you see some gnarly badass skiing and you can only think: "WOW! they must be having fun! "


so sparknotes: showing that you're having fun is the thing that makes a good edit/trailer for me ....

but that's just my 2 cent...

Ummmm. Theres a problem with the title here.

Take a look at chug life. (as pointed out earlier). Sure it is just an internet episode but take notice how there are about 10- 20 seconds of just major sponsors in every episode. Sure its no movie trailer however it does have coporate sponsors. Chug shows drinking and hints at smoking.

Those snowboarding films are obviously very Ametuer and will probably not get as many view combined as Chug_life does.

Skiers drink, smoke, have copious amounts of unprotected sex etc. Same with snowboarders.

If an AM snowboarding crew wants to put it in their movie so be it. Im probably not gonna watch it anyway.

^having fun is one thing, broadcasting to the world that you are doing something potentially illegal, such as smokin grass, is an entirely different thing. its pretty idiotic for them, imo, and cross-promoting something like smoking with something cool like boarding or skiing, is just wrong in my opinion. Smokers gonna say that people don't make choices based on what other people do, but take a look at your skis, or your tall tee, or hell, your fridge, and you'll see evidence of places where you've been influenced by other people. /rant, let the hate begin
