Saying the brain lost contact with the body is a little more harsh that what it really is. If it really lost contact, the heart, lungs and other vital organs would have shut down.

In reality, it was the brain saying "oh shit, something bad just happened" and the body goes into survival mode. Pretty much, it keeps the brain, heart, and (mostly, but not always) lungs working, and everything else gets shut down, including muscle control.

I guess you can kind of think of it as starting your computer in safe mode. Just enough to keep it running.

It wasn't really a hard hit..it was a guy from Oregon pushing him as he tried to hop like Big Bird into the endzone. Hell, it wasn't even a hit..it was just a push.

I Feel bad for the guy. I do think he really should  of tried and gone up in the air though. You loose all of your leverage, control and power in the air.
There was only one guy between him and the goal, should of put his shoulder down and let the weight room decide if it's going to be a touchdown or not. I imagine if he wasn't as injured as he his, he would be getting his ass chewed of during film review by the coaches.   Hope he recovers though, no one likes to see this.

In rugby, jumping out of a tackle is a penalty offence for that reason and many more (mainly the risk of kicking the tackler in the face)

But jumping out of a tackle like that is asking for trouble
