Unfortunately I saw this earlier this morning too :/

I'm looking at Johns Hopkins, Penn State Honors, Penn, UTexas, Colorado Boulder, Colby, Dartmouth and Cornell.
Looking to major in either Petroleum Engineering or Environmental Engineering.



Applications are gonna be a bitch....

I'm sorry, I know CU is a decent school for environmental stuff but seriously if you have a chance at getting into the other colleges you named...DO IT! don't sell yourself short.

and seriously, for the essay, write it out, then give it to an english teacher that likes you at your school. have them look it over, and proof read it for you. works like a charm

Already done with Vanderbilt and WashU.. no supplements ftw

Cornell and Duke engineering essays are basically the same

so 3/9 supps are taken care of, nice

this is gonna be easier than I expected, esp if I can get into Cornell ED

yes guys. listen up!

write your essay and give it to your college counselor, english teacher, etc. you want your essay to be perfect!

i'm considering making a cult where we can post our apps/essays to revise or give guidance to others. that's only if you guys would be interested.

am I the only one who would pick good skiing over a "good school"? the way i look at it, it really doesnt make a huge diff if you go to Dartmouth or CU boulder, as long as you work hard and try your best, you will be successful in life for the most part.

yeah, we're going to be seniors in high school.

don't stress bro. haha. have you done some research about which schools you're going to want to send applications to? most likely at least some of them will be done via the Common Application, aka the "common app"

check to see which schools you're applying to, and google "which schools use the common app" or something like that. the first hit should be off of their website and give you a list of schools (400 something i believe) that use their application.

i'd say go with environmental. yes the petroleum industry is massive now, but imagine what could come out in a couple years. especially with fuel cell cars, nuclear power, and hybrids. yes petroleum is used for more than energy, but the environment isn't going anywhere. nothing new will replace it.

it would seem like environmental would be a better choice, but its actually just water purification and such. Theres no money in it.
Petroleum Engineering is the highest paid major with $85 grand with a bachelors, starting pay. Its rediculous.

not really,
my dad went to highpoint college, (now a university) which is a small private school in north carolina
my mom went to University of Virginia, one of the best schools in the country and very very well known in the DC area
my dad makes well over 200k a year whereas my mom make closer to 80k.
where you go to school does not always make all the difference

you have to put that down on your common app and i'm not sure how much they care about it. but if they see you're reckless then they see that as a liability

ugh college college college. not stoked for the process, really stoked to go

i'm looking at getting recruited for rowing, so that would open up some ivy's for me, particularly dartmouth which i've always wanted to go to, but places like brown, yale, cornell, harvard are still sort of options but they'd be big reaches even with rowing

without rowing i'm looking at like skidmore, hamilton, colby, bowdoin, and a few others i still need to visit

no you're not. yes for the most part a degree is a degree especially with boulder being a very well known accredited university. however the only risk with going there is that you could get distracted with drugs and skiing and let that prevent you from suceeding and graduating with good grades

im also looking into patroleum/chemical engineering.

you got a wild list of schools though. Penn and CU Boulder are on pretty different ends of the spectrum (although boulder has a great engineering school)
I did an over night at colby for lacrosse, its a beautiful school but its just far away and there is nothing to do around there....


right now i've just been looking at smaller new england schools, mostly for lacrosse.
Amherst is high on the list right now

kid from my school got in.
he has a coin collection thats worth like 6 digits, thats why.

all the people that apply to the best schools are all qualified, you just need that one thing that sets you apart, like race or a hobby or something

btw, im looking at a lot of the same schools that you are looking at (for not rowing, like the nescac schools). going up to hamilton next week for a recruiting thing
