S3 or S4

I ski about 50/50 park to the rest of stuff, the other stuff is mostly bumps and glades, no pow on the ice coast). When i ski park i moslty ski rails, but i want that to change. My question is 168 S3's or 174 S4's? I'm a beginner park skier but expert outside of the park. I'm 5'8 130 and growing. I want to progress alot this coming season. I know s4's are amazing for park, and s3's are great out of the park. my question is what are s3's like in the park, i've held and flexed them in a store but how do they actually ski. How heavy are they for switchups and stuff like that, how do they do in the air and landing? I've herd that the sidecut when measured at the points where the rocker starts is symetrical, and then the tip and tail are 10cm apart, if that makes sense? (cambered part is symertical, full ski is not). I've done my research, i've held both in a store, but i need opinions from people who have actually skied them. I would center mount either pair.

wouldn' t u want the s3 to be longer instead of the s4 due to the rocker making it ski shorter?

I've always want to try the s3, it looks like a sick ski....sorry no firsthand experience, but I love rossi ski's!

I'm really light, and 177 is just too big for the coming season. so trying to learn tricks on them would be a challenge. 168 is pretty much perfect, i think it was around my eyes. but, they would be short next season. i'm in between both size's basically. I'm leaning towards s4's anyways cus they are an amazing park specific ski from what i've heard, and they rip everything else. where as s3's are the opposite, they are an all mountain ski that can handle the park.

I own s4's and I've skied the s3's before. The s3's are heavier for sure, but super fun. I was very surprised how fast I could turn the s3's in the bumps. Their spin weight is still much less then my CRJ's or even LP 100s.

In general this is a personal decision. S4's are great in the park, but you might as well forget the powder. The S3's are fun and jibby. If you are the type that skis some pow in the mornings then laps the park in the afternoon, I would go with the S3's. The S3's are a better one ski quiver, unless you are a complete park junky...

+k for slaying charmander. And making a very good "what ski" thread.

I've never ridden either ski but if you ski that much out of the park I would say get the s3, and look into getting some really cheap symmetrical park skis at some point during the season if your finances allow. i dont think the s4 will be any fun out of the park where as the center mounted s3 would still be a blast in park.

I think the jmos are pretty similar to the s3's in function. Probably why I just pre-ordered some jmos .

I tested out the s3's and they felt amazing...the feel of the ski was perfect and I had so much control in like 6 inches of pow...

I did not get to try them in the park because they were demo skis but out of the park they out perfromed my Nordica Sparks.but if you want to ski lots of park don't worry about how well they ski groomers because even though my nordica's are terriable outside of the park they are great in the park which is basically all I do

I'm not really looking at on3p's because I can get a good deal on both these skis, and still have money left over for new bindings.

well it doesn't help that the owners are mods, and there a bunch of people on here that as soon as they see a "what ski thread", they instantly post something about how awesome on3p's are and that you should totally buy these skis.

Maybe because they're quality skis, relatively cheap compared to other skis, extremely cheap for how well made they are, they have great customer service, the owners are cool, and it's good to support a small ski company?

Their pricing is average compared to other companies, but cheap compared to how good the skis are.

What I'm saying is they could probably sell the skis for a lot more.  They're a small company, so they're probably not making a whole lot of profit, especially when they're buying such high quality, expensive materials to make their skis with, and then they're selling the skis for the same amount of money as the huge companies like K2, Salomon, Volkl, who buy their materials, which aren't all as high quality as ON3P's materials, in bulk, for a much cheaper price, and then selling the skis for their same amount of money.

I really wanna try them for myself but that would be hard to arrange. I wish they could charge the usual demo price for a shop and take your credit card # then ship a pair to you to demo so they can charge you if you steal them. Lol

It's fuckin irritating that every thread gets on3p'ed. We know those ski's are out there people. In this case he asked a pretty specific question.

He got his answer.... S3, and sorry for people expressing their opinion.  The S3 and Jmo are pretty similar, so some people are gonna recommend the Jmo, because it is a great ski.

i think the 174 S4 would be better size wise.
my buddy has S4s and he skis a ton out of the park and loves em to death so i don't think its an issue, theyre pretty versatile.

I have a lot to say so i think i'll do it all in one post:

@style+eaze: Well i didn't get my answer, no ones told me how s3's are in the park, everyone who's skied them and posted has only skied them on a pow day or on groomers. I also like how you have 300-350 postes and like 450 karma points.

@omghedidnt: Finally someone gets it, +k. i know on3p's are great skis for a sweet price, but rossi's are great skis two. I thought about getting on3ps when the pre-orders came out, but I narrowed it down to these two skis after a lot of thought and research. so its kinda annoying when half this thread has nothing to do with anything that i asked.

@Gabski: pm k_m if you wants pics of the bases for j-mos's, not ask in a thread about rossi's.

@summersover: Thats what i've heard too, their an allmountain park ski, write know i'm leaning to s4's because of weight of the s3's and the sizes, 168 are just right right now, but i'm still growing, 177 is way too big. 174 s4 is a great size for me when centered, with some room to grow a 1-2ish more inches. I might get s4's this year, then get s3's or a similar ski next year if i have the cash.

@K_M: read what i said to omghedidn't. I know on3p's are great skis, and i thought about them, but rossis are great skis too. i asked very specific questions about the s3's and s4's not about on3ps. I kinda wish i had posted that i have narrowed it down to these two skis and that i don't need suggestions for other similar skis. I have done a ton of research and these two skis seemed to fit what i wanted the best, and i can get them for a great price.

It's all good.  I can understand why you got mad.  I still think you should get S4.  I've never ridden either, but I just like all mountain skis.  I've never owned a pair of park skis, but I don't really want to either.

^I think you mean s3's, s4's are the park skis. and i can't decide between the two. i hate to say it but it will probably come down to which size fits me best, which is 174 s4's.

To follow up my earlier post: I skied the s3's at deer valley from the Rossi demo yurt. Thus I couldn't ride the "park." Although first run I spun a 3 off empire ridge and landed in the bumps with relative ease. My point is they aren't bad to spin and pretty easy to land on, as landing in the bumps is normally harder than landing on normal park transitions. I dont have experience with them on rails due to deer valley not having any... I think 270s will be doable without too much trouble..

Id personally go with the s4, they are by far the best park ski i have ever ridden.  Yeah if you want a do everything ski the s3 might be better if you can rip a few inches of fresh in the glades in the am.  But being from the EC thats rare, chances are better your going to be crusing groomers and bumps more then 10 inches of fresh, and for groomers, bumps and park the s4 deffanatly was better imo, glades and fresh id take the s3
