Replying to Creating a Time Lapse with Sony Vegas 9

So I just took about 300 photos to make a timelapse. All I have now is Vegas 9 and I don't normally use it. I can click and drag all the photos into the program but it sets them about 3 seconds apart each. I could render it like that and then just keep speeding it up until I get it to the speed I want but 300 hundred pictures 3 for s seconds each is a super long time especially since there all 18 megapixels. There has to be an easier way. If so is there an easier way to do it in the program or is there a free timelapse software I could download?
