Sale of Sponsership gear

Just wondering if this is legal like if one is sponsered by K2 and at the end of the season sells his used skis to others.. would that likely to go down with the company..
I know it obviously depends on the company but..

it's not. Andy Parry and lots of other fulltiltfags sell their boots as soon as they get the next seasons model.

I'm sure it happens with other products also.

if its spreading the brand name and stokeing kids out then i dont see why companies would have a problem with it but im just takeing a guess

They also always sell Jossi's Skis, Boots.. Even sold TJ's Boots from 09 X games.. they went for like $300NZ

Yeah. The skis, the boots, etc, shouldn't be a problem. But like I said, if it's something the company wants to keep exclusive, like red bull 50fiftys (or Jiberish stickers, haha) then that would be a problem

just sayin if i owned the company and it happened i'd only be okay with it if it was 1. last years gear 2. ridiculously cheap with the intent to hook up a kid and 3. not gonna get flipped for double retail just because it's a certain popular sponsered rider's gear.

thats one of the only ways a lot of those kids can even make an extra dime... pro skiing (at least in this genre) is really not all that glamorous.. unless of course you are Jon.

they sell for cheap so unfortunate kids can get an amazing deal

looks like that helmet belongs to a wells kid (jossi or byron? maybe the youngest... cant remember the name.)

I have no idea how it actually works but...

If I ran a business that sponsored skiers I would only limit the selling of gear if it was like a prototype. For instance, if the rider had a prototype ski that was not as durable as expected, it wouldn't be good for the business if some kid later obtained said skis and ended up breaking them; inevitably claiming later that such and such brand skis have bad durability.

Other than that I bet gear that comes off a normal production line is cool to sell.

ok look... sponsors give them next year's stuff. when next year comes, they get new stuff so where does all the old stuff go? they fucking sell it to finance their skiing and also it would be useless to keep that old shit around. its the way things work, simple as that. not illegal or anything. if they were selling next year's stuff early and outwardly or if it were against their contract, that'd be a problem. other than that its legit. not a new thing here, its been going on since sponsors have been around.

yeah i understand that. but surely they would have an agreement to just send it back to the company for the company to use it as demos or something.. i dunno, just seemed a little dodgy but whatever..

believe it or not but those companies can spare a few pairs of skis or shirts. they gave them away which is fine because the companies realize that its a great investment. you know the whole reason they sponsored the riders in the first place. give away 2 jackets in return for 100 orders of said jacket. think of it in terms of paid advertisement. as long as they're not selling brand new shit early and high marked or against their contact (being obvious they're using the company to make profit instead of repping them), its fine. don't worry about it because i think they know what they are doing.

this..but yeah from what i've heard most companies do nottttt like it. some make you ship your gear back, but I think that's pretty lame. Like the company is really gonna suffer, shit.

Its fine to sell gear as long as its not next years gear.  So selling mid summer or in the fall usually is fine.

How do you think these sponsed kids are able to live?  Well, apart from most of them being from rich families...

They sell that shit.  They don't get PAID at all really, so they gotta make money somehow.

the top dudes, like the guys who make a living on skiing, shouldn't and most often don't sell their stuff and if they do it should go to charity (imo). AM dudes who are 'living the dream' trying to get by, the brands who support them can give a blind eye, but still kinda odd and that gear is usually trashed.  If someone leaves a brand for another its customary to send back all the gear you were sent to rep that company.  My 2 cents

Actually they do it so they can afford to pay the bills.  Not many rich skiers out there at all.

Okay so I would understand if a low key skier who didnt enter mainstream competitions and would understand if they sold there stuff to get by but Im sure any of the guys who podium at X games or Dew Tours, surely they arnt struggling for money.. And for example, sponsered by a non skiing related company.. E.G

Monster
Nike 6.0
Snus or General chewing tabacco or whatever olenick is sponsered by..

They arnt going to pick up a sponser and just provide them with cans of monster or chewing tabacco, they are going to give alot of cash...

the way it works with alot of sponsered guys in biking and skiing is that the company gives their athletes skis/ bikes at the begining of the year, if the company feels that the rider earned their equipment they get to keep it to do what they want (usualy sell), if not they return it to the company and get next years stuff.

obviously that is not how it works for everyone on every company but thats how it works with the people ive asked
