Can anyone who skateboards help me out?

i have never skateboarded before, but it looks really and i would like to start.  i have always wanted to buy never did and i have 4 months until it snows again in ny and i need something to occupy my time.

i have no idea what i should get.  i don't know anything about skateboards and i need some help buying something.  (if there is a better place for this let me know, i looked at transworld/skateboarding but i don't know what to do on that site)  can someone just give me some ideas of what i should get and where i should get it, because i have no idea.

go check out your local skateshop man look around at some boards until you find a shape that you are gona like then decide on trucks and wheels the guys at the skateshop should be willing to help you out

id say just going to your local shop would be the best idea, usually someone who works there will be able to help you pick out everything for your first board.

thanks guys and +k to all. now all i gotta do is find my local skate shop haha. i think there is one like 20 mins away from my house so i'll that up this weekend.

as said before go to your local shop for help..I found its not bad to try out different shapes and sizes brands etc..dont buy a pro deck. shits a waste of money. get a blank deck or shop deck for way cheaper. start with some mid size wheels not to big not to small. I think alot of finding the right set up is all about trying different things. also try out different truck tightness. i personally prefer a 8.0 shop deck venture low trucks not to tight not to loose. Hard wheels around 52. and basically any abec 7 bearing.
o and dont go to zumiez

if your just starting id try to get like a 7.75 size blank deck and blank wheels get some reds bearings and venture trucks and ur good to go

I suggest you get a shop deck or a blank deck like the other uy said... i have a bklank and i love the shape and my bro has a shop deck and he loves his

Also, Get Independent trucks and get some Bones bushings for them. Best setup ever.

just get some GOODWOOD or MINILOGO. theyre the same as basically other other deck just alot cheaper like 30 for a deck instead of 70.

suport a local shop!  and buy a board from them, and if they make there own boards buy one of those.  honestly no brand is better than anyother brand but in my oppinion i feel cleche, organika,  and sterio are my favorite brands.....and for trucks get indys wheels get anything, for berings get bones reds and random hardwer/griptape. oh yeah if you have a bigger foot size get a size 8+ but if you have a smaller foot get a 7.5-7.75, and if you have a medium sized foot get a 7.75-8

thanks again for all the help and advice.  i'm heading down to my local shop friday or saturday and will probably pick something up.  to be honest there is way too many brands getting thrown around here, some i've heard of, some i haven't.  but i'll probably just get something cheap that the shop tech recommends (blank / shop deck - like you guys said).  thanks the input and +k to all

my bad i totally forgot about this thread.

i talked to my friend and he gave me one of his skateboards. i don't know anything about it, but its good enough for free. i figured i would hold off on spending money until i can actually do something on it. like renting skis, when you are terrible at skiing, to save money.

also, anyone have any good tips for where i can go to check out skateboard stuff? websites, etc (newschoolers of skateboarding, cults on newschoolers would be lot easier) and i don't really know where to start learning stuff as well.

i literally have no idea what to even ask, any help would be, well, helpful. thanks guys, you have really help a lot so far.

check out transworld skateboarding, youre not going to find much like newschoolers, but twskate is pretty good, or at least it seems so from a non skater's who likes skating perspective haha

hopefully everyone reads this before they post.

i now have a skateboard.

can anyone point me in the direction of:

-what i should learn.
-how to do stuff / videos on how to do stuff.
-helpful vids / websites i can check out.

because i started trying to do shit the other day, no clue at all what i'm doing, and i ended up cutting my leg and bruising up my ankle. who the fuck likes this sport haha. maybe i should tape it just so for the entertainment of you guys.
