he is looking at trying to get sponsored
has the skills, good attitude, sorry i dont have the vid yet
what companies are good to start with talking to, and which ones are a waste of time?
he was also looking at ski/snowboard shops in VT to start, probably going in with a dvd and some other small stuff that shows who he is. good idea yay or nay?
thanks for any replies

A shop should be your first sponsor, they can help you get into real companies, becuase they know reps and so on.

definitely go to a shop. they are great first sponsors but it's hard work. you can't just walk in and expect to leave with a sponsor and a ton of free gear. you have to be dedicated and very willing to help out a lot and sometimes it can be inconvenient. the effort at a shop can be very helpful in the long run. the shop owners and managers will talk to the reps and tell them either you're a good kid to sponsor or a bad one and the shop's opinion can make a big difference. i've been going to a shop since i was a kid just to hang out and i started working there last summer and i've become really good friends with everyone there from working and they saw my skiing and my dedication and decided to sponsor me this past season but it took a few years of dedication and good impressions to get there. working for the shops helps get you closer to the reps as well. because of that job i was picked up by nordica boots and just recently giro helmets and goggles.
it takes time and work to get a sponsorship so don't expect anything right away.

I donno, I got my first (and only) sponsor via facebook. I liked their shit, started talking to the owner of the company, next thing you know I'm filling out my bio. But being sponsored by a shop would be sick no doubt.
