Question about the law..

so leme explain the story then ill ask my question...

so i went out the other night to meet up with some people..they told me where they were i pulled up to the house and one of the kids was like dude get outa here cops are coming the neighbor came over and caught us partying in this house..apparently they were in an abandoned house that was for sale so noone was there..well thats dumb ass shit but thats not what i was wondering..so a group of us got outa there..but the neighbor ended up making the other couple kids give him their keys threatening to call the cops and would not let them drive anywhere home..he was gonna have the kids that he caught confront the cops or call their parents...then he decided he wasnt gonna call the cops..so seeing that its not his house..and he wasnt getting the law involved was he allowed to take the kids keys and not let them go anywhere? or did he wrongfully take their stuff and hold them there? or was it just stupid for the kids to actually give up their keys lol..

kids didn't have to give up their keys to the guy. but being in that house was trespassing so thats against the law.

Stupid for them to give him their personal property.

yea but after the guy said he wasnt callin the cops does he have the right to still hold their keys? they asked for them back he said no

It isn't his property it's their property. He really had no right to take them from the kids in the first place.

They were idiots for trespassing to go to the abandoned house though so that could makes shit extremely complicated.

they are lucky they didnt get in any trouble so whats the problem?

It's not false imprisonment, they could have walked away and left their cars there and picked them up later. What exactly are you thinking the guy should get in trouble for? He asked for the keys and they gave them to him, he didn't forcibly take them. If you want someone to surrender property of yours they're holding, you pretty much have to sue them. Obviously that's not going to happen.

I didn't deny they gave the keys to him.

Ultimately it's the OP's friends or acquaintances faults for being idiots and handing the keys over.

yea thanks for the info..basically just stupid for them to listen to him in the first place..and retarded for trespassing...but still the guy wasnt gonna do shit he just coulda told them to get outta there and not come back..
