Replying to Warcraft addiction is funny, till it hits home
I always hear about people becoming insanely addicted to warcraft and doing all sorts of crazy shit. Like that one guy who died because he would not stop playing. I always laughed at it thinking to myself "oh these people are stupid". Well it has hit someone pretty close to me now. I used to be best friends with this girl 4 years ago. Normal girl, kinda into the hardcore scene then, but we were freshmen in highschool. Everyone was. As the years progressed we drifted away, no big deal. We still talked every once in a while and she made a new small group of friends. Well as of this year ive had minimal contact with her due to college and shit. I wondered what happened to her and I asked her once upon a time other best friend. and this is what I find out. She started playing WOW about a year ago and it has come to the point where she is addicted. She cant stop, its all about Warcraft now. She met her "boyfriend" on there and he flew down from Canada (we live 2 hours from NYC) to see her and she fucked him the night of. She has completely disconnected herself from everything but him and Warcraft. No friends, very little family. No one has heard from her in a few weeks and shes so wrapped up in this that it has taken over her life. Shes the last person I would ever suspect this would happen to. Cool story I know. But in all seriousness, its horrible how much a game can take over a persons life. The game has made her desperate, secluded, and has downright had a negative effect on her decision making. This is a plea to those who see their friends starting to play it. Take them away from the computer every once in a while. Remind them theres a lot more fun outside then there is in the game. You dont want to see their life diminish in front of a screen.
