Powder Skis

Hey wonderin if I can get some opinions on what people think they would want for skis that are mostly powder but have that versatility that can do a little park too.  I have been looking at the Sir Francis Bacon, Armada JJ, K2 Hellbents, Atomic Bent Chetlers and the Line EP Pro. Lemme know what you think, Some where in there with the 100mm+ underfoot.

I have the EPs and love them. Godly in powder, fun on groomers, and playful in the park too. dont hold up super well in crud, but you learn to deal with it haha.

those are all definatly 100+ mm underfoot. personally i think its best to get a ski that's all for powder/big mountain and then use old beater skis in the park.

When i was buying powder skis i wanted to get a ski that i could use everywhere (park and powder) and bought the line elizabeth. I ended up hating it for rails and feeling ho hum for jumps, so i ended up just using my old park skis in the park and the elizibeths for anything else.

if i could go back and do it again i would have gotten a powder/big mountain specific ski and then saved the beaters for the park because really for me all i need my park ski to do is turn well have a bit of pop and not weigh to much

sir francis bacons should be fine for park and powder. although 2 seperate pairs of skis would be better

Got a pair of 184 Amplid Cholesterone R.C's. Really good pow skis, super fat underfoot - 126mm.
Would recommend them to anyone.

Thanks for the input, I am thinking the Sir Francis Bacons only because im new to skiing with a fatter underfoot (100mm+) I used an alpine ski for powder with no rocker or twin tip to it and park skis. The advice about keeping shitty park skis and investing in pow skis seems to make the most sense. I have a pair of 176 atomic snoop daddy's that I was using as my only set of skis, from now on I guess I'll use the snoops in the park and invest in a big mountain/pow ski. Can anyone explain the difference when moving to a fatter ski?

If you're really wanting a more big mountain powder ski, none of the Lines are going to be any good. They're just ridiculously soft and can't really handle high speeds or crud. I don't want to suggest a specific big mountain pow ski, as I really need more information regarding what type of length, sidecut, flex, and rocker you want. In general, I tend to think the small ski companies are better for pow skis, but at this point, almost everyone makes a good pow ski.

Well im lookin for a ski thats between 180cm and 186cm. I have a park ski and really want a twin tip that I can just ride. Im from vermont so I dont want a ski with a huge underfoot because they wont ride well in sticky snow or even the slightest wet conditions. Can anyone venture an opinion on the 4FRNT CRJ?

where in vermont? you really don't need to go that big unless its a powder specific ski for jay.. i'd say look at the 95-110 underfoot stuff with a little rocker, it'll be a lot more versatile and a better park ski.

from the 2011 lineup.. liberty helix, line blend, k2 kung fujas, on3p jeronimo, surface one life (the widest i'll recommend), rossi s6, atomic blog, salomon shogun, nordica zero's...

i like the blend, a lot. i've skied in on rock solid park days to fresh 2 footers. the added rocker will definitely help on the deeper days, and its a super versatile all around ski. you cant get wrong with anything out of that list, the shogun is the only ski there that'd do a lot for me.

I have the crj's. From hand flexing they are a hair softer then the jj's. They are the softest ski I own. Think softer than a line prophet 100, but no way as soft as the noodle hellbents. I am 190lbs and 5'10. I have the 189's but due to the rocker they ski more like. 185ish normal camber ski. I really like them as a pow ski, and I don't have trouble charging crud on them. They don't really like to carve on the hardpack, but that should be expected. Also, they are a beast trying to ski a deep bump zipper line, but that is also to be expected...

Also i swung by the 4frnt office the other day to check out the new batch of skis and look at the wle. They mentioned they stiffened the crj tail for this year,which would probably be a nice change from mine.

I have a season pass to jay and bolton, I'm just trying to figure out which ski would be the best for some bumps occasional groomers and a lot of trees. Obviously you know what I mean cause it sounded like you know jay. I'm 6'4 190 and riding a 176 atomic snoop right now. Gonna keep the park skis to beat on for backyard jammin and rails but just want a ski I can ride all day long.

I take back my recommendation now that I know you're from vermont. Just rent a powder ski for the one day a year that you get over 5 inches.

Ok maybe I'm missing something, in your original post you were looking for a ski that was +100 waist for powder and occasional park. Your last post mentions bumps... If you want a ski that is going to be reasonable in the bumps I would not go bigger than 100 waist, stay away from reverse side cut, and no huge rockers... If you ski deep bumps down the zipper line competion type style, anything over 100 waist is going to be a bear to get around. It is more than possible, but not a ton of fun. Two "fatter" skis that I can ski down the zipper without being misserable are the line blend and Rossi s3. I suspect the on3p jerinomos would be reasonable in the bumps.

on3p caylors, little bit stiffer then EPs and bents so they dont get beat up in crud, more stable on landings, better core material, thicker edges, faster base, hand made in the US, and the founder of the company is our very own Iggyskier, what more can you ask for?
