Calculus Help PLZ!!

++k If you can explain to me how to do this. Calculus only, it might be doable with some stats stuff, but thats useless.

I might just be dumb, but I can't figure it out, Im doing some weird online class and some of it is different than what I am used to.
anyway:

The government injects $1 billion into the economy. Each recipient spends 90 % of the dollars received. In turn, the secondary recipients spend 90 % of the dollars they receive, etc.
Use the expansion of 1/(1 - x) in powers of x to help come up with a clean measurement of the total spending that results from the $1 billion injection.

idk, prolly to late, but i wanna brag how intelligent i am. seems friggin easy to me (although i admit i calculated in in excel to see how it works beforehand)

1/(1-x)
x=0.9 in this case

so you get a factor, in this case 10, this is a measurement (i know only the german expression) how often every dollar gets spend. so in this case 1 billion times 10 is the total spending.

Thanks for the help guys, ^you were right. turns out I was just misinterperating the question because it wants the resultant spending which does not include the initial government spending.

so basically it is 1+ (.9)+(.9)(.9)+(.9)(.9)(.9)+...+(.9)^n = 1/(1-.9) like you said.

1/(1-.9)=10 Billion. But it only wants the resultant spending so

10 Billion - initial 1 Billion = 9 Billion.

Not a very well worded question IMO, and guess what, it wasn't even on the test.... Oh well...
