So I noticed that with the NSG, random trolls get on (not an uncommon occurrence) and post several different threads. I was wondering if a Max Number of Threads could be introduced. It might help. Such as if you could only create 1 thread an hour or something like that. Sorry if this has already come up, i did searchbar a bit though, didn't find anything.
I think it's a good idea, but what about serious people making legit threads? It would have to clear over time so people actually looking for info or sharing cool stuff don't get screwed after a while.
how about new members cant post until like 5 hours of "online time". that way they can expirience ns so they dont make dumb comments/get made fun of. maybe like 12 hours before they are allowed to make threads. when i joined in '07 i took a friends advice and didnt post until '08. i also agree with a test on the noob guide. like they get to take it and if they get 75% or higher they can post. if not they have to wait 5 hours of online time to take it again.
Not a bad idea, but most of these trollers will have done the test before, and just roll right through it. It won't faze them. And if you get it wrong, you can just make a new account. It be best to just set a specific time you have to wait until you can make posts.
I only think it would be a viable option if there was the ability to change up the test. So you couldn't just click through it easy and be done. As i feel like it will be taken advantage of, once people figure out the right answers. Then it proves to simply slow them down.
While I agree, it might deter some people slightly, as they will not want to do as much work, it would be easier just to make standard "post-probation".
I don't know if this has already been done, but make it so only one account can be registered to each email. That would make it harder/more inconvenient for people to make alias' and it would lead to less trolling
The test is a little extreme. And what about users familiar to forum sites that are ready to jump in and begin contributing right away? They're just going to have newschoolers idle for 5 hours, I don't think that will go over well at all.
Yea, I lurked for a good year before posting. If nobody springs for this idea, a max of two or three threads an hour sounds about right (more than 1 though, sometimes have to make more than one in a timeframe)
or maybe have a thread limit for those under 2k posts?
Well wouldn't the spambuster script be easy to change if we wanted to up the post limit time? Is there a way to write in creating threads as opposed to posting?
I actually really like this idea. Upon reaching 2000 posts the thread limit would be removed, signally at least this person wants to keep their account.
So an initial thread limit of 3 per 12 hour period. And then at 2000 posts there will no longer be a limit.
eh i dont agree with that one... there are definetly legit sellers with under 200 posts... and like a lot of orange name have like 100 posts so then HOW WOULD PEOPLE GET THEIR 4XL JIBERISH!?
