Everybody knows it. We are in need of a new mod.
1. Someone who wont go ape shit with the ban hammer
2. Someone who frequently logs on. (notice how no mods are on)
3. Will keep forums clean.
4. Anything else you can think of...

Post members you think will be a good mod and post why.

my vote is for Bigger_Spence.(El.Gato) personally because i see him on ns a lot, especially late nite which is when trolls come out. And i dont see him taking advantage of the responsibilities of being a mod. post members who you think fit the job.

I wouldn't have a problem as long as they aren't like FB notifications. If you can click a small link to see them, I won't mind.

But really, this has been discussed many, many times before and if I recall correctly there is mixed opinions on it.

Welcome! Sherdog is a private forum so posting is a privilege, not a right. All rules are subjective to administrative interpretation.

***Platinum Members Please Note*** -- While we greatly appreciate your subscription and support, these rules apply uniformly to everyone, with no added leniency given for paying members. If you commit a ban infraction, your money will be lost rather than pro-rated or refunded.


Double Yellows: last 30 days. Members lose many posting abilities. Any infractions while carded = ban.

Double Yellow Infractions

1. Fighter Bashing (including refs, promoters and the like) won't be tolerated. Criticism is fine, flaming, steroid allegations, etc. isn't. Minor bashing such as "so and so sucks, is a can, etc." is a double yellow, while extreme bashing like "so and so is a pile of shit, bitch, ***got, etc." will result in a ban.

2. Postwhoring. Posting "+1," "too long, didn't read," "rickson by armbar," empty quoting, cool story bro, pic-whoring etc., will result in a double yellow card and post count reduction. If it's a number of posts, you will be banned for trolling.

3. Scrollbombs, gigantic pictures that disrupt threads, or posts designed to cause thread or computer problems. Quoting scrollbombs, infractions or problem, empty posts.

4. Posting video clips of events recently shown on pay per view. Posting full fight clips from unauthorized copyrighted events. Includes outwardly soliciting/providing via pm.

5. Nudity. No bareass, assfloss, nipples or graphic poses, avatars included.

6. Copyright infringement. Ex: If a site posts and interview, post a link don't cut and paste the entire article.

7. Profanity in the thread titles.

8. Knowingly or repeatedly posting material in the wrong forum; if you are unsure, feel free to pm a moderator.

Ban Infractions

1. Hateful Comments. "Shut up ***," "Fuck you Newb," etc.,

2. Member Harrassment (including pms, threats).

3. Tape trading/selling.

4. Using an alternate account while carded.

5. Orchestrating forum raids.

6. Posting a private conversation or personal information without consent.

7. Trolling (posting ridiculous/non-sensical/irrelevent/racial/disturbing comments, images or links), spamming, posting to stir shit/cause problems.

8. Porn. Posting, quoting or outwardly soliciting/providing pornographic images or links, empty posting, lol-ing and t-ing porn posts or threads. *See Off-Topic Sticky for more specifics regarding posting outside the fight forums.

9. Posting fight spoilers outside the spoiler forum (shows on tape delay in the U.S.). Requesting/Providing Illegal streams.

***NOTE*** -- We're only interested in what happens regarding the website; if your brother, ex-girlfriend, drunken asshole buddy, cat, gets into your account or starts posting infractions while you're on the toilet, the account will take the bullet regardless.


If you see a thread getting out of hand please pm a moderator and it will be taken care of.

Sherdog has the population of TGR, NS, and like half of GameFaqs rolled together. Hence the strictness there but plenty of stupid shit still happens.


The biggest reason I posted it is for the "Double Yellow infractions" set up they have. I think THAT portion of it could be implemented here really well. If the admins could get something like that coded in.

Panda what is your obsession with goddamned Sherdog, you talk about the place constantly. What works one place will probably not work in another. I frequent a site with roughly equivalent traffic to this one where every ban or major thread deletion is disclosed and justified and discussed in a transparent moderation thread... yeah fucking right, like that would work here. The rules here are specific to here because of NS's individual culture.

Same, the only other forum I go on is a Student one, where you're banned for being a bit mean to others, swearing, first trolling offense, etc.

There is no hating, etc, but it's also as boring as shit. I could surf NS for hours, just because more lenient moderation makes it hilarious

The thing that needs to be realized by most members here, and it's something that is lost touch of the larger the site has grown to be, is that the ski world is pretty small in the grand scheme of things. You should want to act in a manner where you would run into another member on a mountain somewhere and want to proudly say who you are on Newschoolers.

You never know who you may meet while skiing from the internet, so everyone should best act the way they would in real life. If you wouldn't say something to someones face on the mountain, don't say it on a community forum in such a small sport such as freeskiing.

Personally I think the mods are doing a great job and every time I happen to talk to one of them I thank them for being so good at keeping the bullshit level low. Sure the mods have flaws, but so does every other member on this site. I think that we do need new mods, but I don't think any one who's on here right now would be very good. I look in the threads and I don't see a single member posting consistently helpful information, and maybe you would clean up your act if made a mod, but I think you should prove you can be mature and handle the responsibility before being forced to.

I think we need to have the yellow name system, like Jamie suggested. Then only yellow names can be made mods because they've shown they're responsible enough.

I think that we need Janitors. Don't hate, but it's from 4chan. They have Janitors, which are less glorified mods, they go through the forums with nothing special about them, except they have a report button. This report button immediately sends a message to the mods that are online warning them about the thread, and they can delete specific files if they're too offensive. The Janitors are just members who the mods or admins pick because they've shown that they know when something is going too far, and then have to take a test / tryout thing to prove they're responsibility.

Just my 2 cents.

none of you have a direct effect on picking who a new mod is. try contributing positively towards the website. complaining never helped anything ever. make quality threads and helpful responses. the annual seven page thread reiterating the 6 year old mantra of "OMG NSG SUCKS" with the new vocabulary of "troll" really isn't going to do anything at all.

From what I understand, a 'report' button is in development (who knows when it will be done). I would assume it would be available to all members, obviously if you abused the tool you would get banned.

For what it's worth skierman has been on my shit list since 2006-ish. Not that it really gets to me. He oscillates on and off the 'punch in the face list' depending on my mood. That list is not hard to get on. He is like a sine function.
