Everybody knows it. We are in need of a new mod.
1. Someone who wont go ape shit with the ban hammer
2. Someone who frequently logs on. (notice how no mods are on)
3. Will keep forums clean.
4. Anything else you can think of...

Post members you think will be a good mod and post why.

my vote is for Bigger_Spence.(El.Gato) personally because i see him on ns a lot, especially late nite which is when trolls come out. And i dont see him taking advantage of the responsibilities of being a mod. post members who you think fit the job.

No, but in all seriousness, I'm going to start doing some sluthing on troll accounts we've recently banned. I *might* make a list of the IP's they're associated with, and I *might* ban all the other accounts that are linked to those for a few weeks. Or I *could* just publish a shit list of those members, or who knows, I *might* send a little list of IP's over to the admins to IP ban.

One thing I do know though, I'll enjoy it over a nice cold chocolate stout. Fun should start tonight when I get off work...

The moderating done on this site is not done to serve you, it is done to serve the interests of the admins regarding the site. No one makes you open a thread, no one makes you log on. If you see a post that is trolling, don't read it, just move on to the next one. If you see a thread that is dumb, don't click it. If people did not respond to trolling, it would stop. I only troll because I get great entertainment out of your knee jerk responses.

If you really want this site to improve, improve the way you interact with it.

Two things:

The members make this site; they (we) are the reason the site is able to keep going, why sponsors invest, why donations flow in, and the moderations is for the members' benefit.

Also, are you seriously suggesting that we should just let racism run it's course? Or that growing up consists of the ability to ignore and tolerate it? Web forum or not, it's still fucking racism you silly cunt. If that is truly what you're suggesting, then you're the personification of what is wrong with America.

Moderators... moderate. We cant control what people think, we only have a rather limited ability to control what content is posted.

As I've said, when it comes to trolls and 4chan shit, theres only so much moderators can do about it. I remove everything I fucking can, but its like holding back a tidal wave of pre-pubescent teenagers off a hormone party. This is my first summer on NS and it has definately been a bit hard to adjust. It's kinda like going from a room full of adults to play time at a preschool. There's so much stupid crap going on(some being hilarious/fun). But honestly, the things that really cross the line never last too long. I personally think the mods are really on top of their game. Like that "post before a green name gets on" thread. It had no purpose but it wasn't threatening the site (well... At least when I saw it. I think it may have been worse before) and It was decided to let us have our fun for a bit. Stuff like porn is literally almost instantly gone.

Those of you nominating yourselves for mod-dom, take some time to think if you really would even want the responsibility if it was offered to you.

We are mods because we care about the site, and no other reason at all. We get a few 'atta-boys' and pats on the back from people for cleaning up after the pigs, but for the most part it is thank-less work that gets us vilified.

I receive little to no personal benefits to being a mod, aside from the fact that I can help keep the best skiing community website clean, and organized.



To everyone who is posting in this thread, your suggestions are being noted and discussed. However, go a step further and go into NSG and change it for the better yourselves. Stop bumping the shit threads, and replace them with thoughtful discussion. Send us suggestions of what you feel we should delete via messages.

This site is entirely comprised of the sum of it's parts and the shit can easily be squashed if the good members stand up for it, and post good things.

just throwing this idea out there...

suppose rather than making new mods, we had some sort of suggest deletion button for either threads or even every post, and have it notify the mods that something is being heavily suggested. I'm not sure if its possible, but it would at least make it so the mods could see what ns'ers don't like. I'm sure some patterns would develop over time of what type of stuff doesn't fly with users, and it may make it slightly less of a judgement call on how strict to be.

^A report button has definitely been suggested in the past and is being discussed now, although implementation of new features tends to just end up on a gigantic pile of "to do" stuff. You would be amazed by the the degree of work the web development team does on NS, they constantly have lots of things on the go.

What, sending stupid shit through the report button? We could just ban people for that if they kept doing it repeatedly. Once is no big hassle, any more than an annoying PM would be. I imagine the functionality of such a system essentially being a button that instantly PMs all the mods with a link to the thread and a field for you to enter why you're reporting it. A PM to a green name would be just as easy but not many people do that currently, unfortunately.
