yeah, I'm definitely pro choice. I most always use poles unless I am just hiking rails or whatever.

How about we drop this before it becomes a real issue and people actually stop using poles? We should let this die and never speak of it again so people dont get the idea to not use poles. Did anyone watch Stereotype? Pete Mitherofer looks horrible skiing, his arms just flap down at his sides and he stands straight up, it is ugly. Also, what do you think dudes like Thovex, Cusson, Douglas, Tanner, etc. would say to this new 'no pole' revolution. They would say stop being posers and fucking around and actually ski. if you stop using poles and stop using the basic that encompass skiing, ie pole planting, using the poles for balance, initiating turns, then what is it that you are doing? Skiboarding? Aerials? Well have fun at that cause other skiers and snowboarders are going to look at you and laugh and say you are wannabe ski boarders. And your style is going to be ugly cause your arms will be flailing around in the air and sitting at your side when skiing. Not exactly anything I want thanks

i think the point is being missed... skiing without poles is good training... you get better balance. i've never freeskied without poles butracing i did plenty of drills without them. it helps, but i would never race without poles on purpose... just like i wouldnt want anyone filming me with no poles...

I will admit that while racing i did drills too without poles but they are an integral part of skiing, its part of what make us unique I think and separates us from all the other snow sports. It is OK to mess around without poles I think but when you start ditching your poles cause you want to be 'cool' and want to be a rebel and part of a new dumbass revolution in skiing, you are actually just hurting the sport. thats just what I think, dont take what I say to be anything other than my opinion.

^Good point midwest. Just hush this up so that noone gets any ideas. God forbid anyone makes their own decisions, we should make sure they just follow the crowd. what will it take for you to understand the reason for no poles? if we stayed to the fucking basics of skiing, then our knees wouldnt even come apart, all our tricks would be back scratchers and daffies..that shits old school...and maybe someday poles will be too...the sports changing...whether you want to accept it or not. i dont know if poles will stay or go...i dont really care...i ride either way...END OF ALL POLE DISCUSSIONS PLEASE

Ok, to be serious, is all of this just because of people who are scared that skiing with poles will no longer be 'cool'? That's pathetic. If you ski because you want to look cool, you need to take your rag, stick it in your back pocket and ski right off a cliff. What's cool amounts to what the majority of people in a society think. The majority of people in society are hopeless morons. Do the fucking math.

If people start saying poles are gay, I'll use poles and not care what other people think. If you want to drop the poles, you can safely adopt the same policy; the critics are all idiots anyways. No need to pay attention to idiots.

I guess I can't really argue with that, but just remember if you read this: just cause some dudes are skiing without poles doesnt mean you have to. Poles really do help your skiing. i am a cert 2 instructor and raced for 9 yrs, but I've been jibbing since State of Mind and Degenerates in 98. I would just hate to see poles go. but anyway, done
