Largemouth: I prefer to use about a 3" silver minnow. This usually works. You can also use a slide sinker with a rubber crayfish. Another option which usually works for me is a chartreuse skirted, pointed head, colarado blade spinnerbait

Smallmouth: I recommend a soft stickworm or a soft jerkbait. They provide good action and will really catch the smallmouths eyes in the summer months.

I never really sought out carp as they can be tough to catch.

As for rods I would recommend a graphite rod. Go to your local bait and tackle store and talk to a worker. Tell them your type of fishing and I'm sure they willl be able to direct you.

Reels: Simply put, the more expensive, the better. You get what you pay for. One thing to keep in mind is how many ball bearings the reel has. The more bearings means the longer it will last and not wear out. Although if your a beginner it probably won't matter too much. Again, ask your bait and tackle employee and they will be able to match a spinning reel to your rod. PM me with any questions

-Bring beer
-don't cheap out on line. I once hauled up a decent sized muskie only to have the line snap when it was 6" from the surface, now that's a piss off.
-now I use braided 30lb test line, it's nice
-don't forget your net
-pike/muskie love live bait, especially frogs
-always bring your lifejacket, boating and fishing license, OPP patrols are super anal about that
-don't let them see your beer, some of them will give you a hard time
-have a nice relaxing time

never fished for bass but I know trout and pike fishing. For pike my favorite lure is len thompson spoons go with the simple classics (5 of diamonds) get it in the 2 inch size. Right now for a rod I have the shakespeare ugly stik Its the most sensitive rod in north america and its relatively cheap. Reels like said above you get what you pay for. I usually fish with a 10 lb. test. Any more questions feel free to pm me.

As far as a rod and reel goes I've always had luck with the Ugly Stik brand, comes as a combo relatively cheap and pretty decent
For largemouth I recommend spinnerbaits in a "fire tiger" pattern, they're the orange, yellow, green, and red ones

Heres some random fishing advice: cast parallel to shore/weed edge to cover more area, not perpindicular to shore, be because fish like hanging out near weed edges, and probably arent in the random open water.

fuck whoever said go to a bait and tackle shop to buy a pole. more like go to your local walmart buy the $12.96 pole and reel special and when it breaks just bring it in, say it broke and you want to exchange. They usually will just tell you to go grab a new one. you dont need the best reel/rod to catch fish

Ive always used Uglystik rods and quantum or shimano reels. Most places have combo deals where you can buy a rod and reel together. It usually is cheaper too. You really dont want to go out and buy something expensive because its not necessary.

for the bass gary yamamato senkos are really good, but i fish in mass so idk how they will work where you are....but in my experience live bait truly works the best

Jighead with a plastic worm. Go on youtube and watch all of AL Linder's videos and you'll be set. You probably want a light- medium action rod, 6-7 feet, and a spinning reel. Look on Cabelas's website and bass pro shops website.

bury the hook in your bait, the fish can see it pretty easily, well smart fish.

I'm a big fan of "big bait, big fish."

Braided line costs more but stretches less, which is good.

morning and evening are best times.
