I'm gonna have to decide whether or not i want to replace the ligament with an allograft or with my hamstring. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with surgery. thanks
I just got the surgery last week. Along with both my miniscuses needing to be redone and repaired I got my ACL done with my hamstring. I did the hamstring because the doctor said it was the most common and gave the best results. The only time I have heard of people using the alternatives is when their hamstring isn't big enough to be used as a ligament. You only really notice it right after surgery that and then you won't even notice your hamstring hurting. I will send you positive vibes for whatever you chose. Its a shitty injury to have and recover from.
I just had the surgery a month ago. HAMSTRING. My dad actually invented part of the tools that go into this surgery and the endobutton, if thats what you will get in your knee, yeah my dad helped invent though so I know a shit ton about this surgery. Go with hamstring. It will for sure have the best results, unless your hanstring tendon is too small then thats a different story. + vibes tho dude. The surgery sucks balls.
yeah thats what I had done and I think I would prefer that to hamstring. I know people who had the hamstring done and it took them a long time to get their strength back
I just got surgery last week, I've had it done with my hamstring cause my docs told me it was the best idea, and it's working out pretty oke I geuss, I'd say go with the hamstring :) goodluck dude!
I did hamstring as well, they said that group of muscles may be weaker but you'd have to do some sort of side by side comparison on a machine to see it. I had it in may, my strength is coming back pretty well and it doesn't seem to be a problem. Recovery sucks though, getting range of motion back is painful, or it was for me anyway. Plus I have a gnarly scar now.
The main difference between the hamstring and the patellar tendon is that there are no screws involved with the patellar tendon. For me they took a bone plug out of my knee cap and my tibia. Then they drilled the tunnels and the tunnels healed around the bone plugs.
Yes there are. I had patella, no issues. The only reason I would say not to do hamstring is that part of the muscle doesn't grow back, so you will have to do alot more exercising to get your strength back. I had surgery back in March, getting cleared in 2 weeks. Can't wait to do stuff again.
Having surgery monday, third one in five years. First one was patella graft, second one was a clean-up... this one is going to be allograft (cadaver) because the acl (from first surgery/patella) has torn and I have too much damage along the graft from the first surgery. I honestly had not heard of the hamstring graft... wondering why not? +vibes to anyone and everyone who has gone through this!
