New camera questions.

I've been using a Nikon D40 for shooting biking, and I've decided I want to get more into it for skiing as well. I want to make videos as well, so I was thinking about a DSLR with video capability. My dad is into photography as well (he just bought a D300s) and he told me he'd buy me a cheap DSLR (such as a D5000) since the D40 is my sisters. My question here is should I go with the D5000, which does both pictures and videos, or get a cheap video camera and keep using the D40. I've had some problems with the D40 biking though. The AF doesn't work for shit, and the picture quality is pretty sketchy even with nice glass, which is why I was thinking the D5000. BUT, I've heard filming skiing with DSLRs is a bitch. Help?

if you're going to stick with nikon, video is pretty much out of the question.

So should I go with Canon? Only reason I'd stick with Nikon is because my dada already has a ton of Nikon lenses.

Just use some cheapo fotodiox adaptors. AF is for bitches anyway.

heres an edit I shot with the D5000, no stabilization and the kit lens. As you can see, the footage is grainy, not sharp and unimpressive compared to a t2i/7d....

For what it is its a very fun camera, but if you really want to stay with Nikon, I would wait for the new D90 announcement, it is supposed to have much better video capabilities than the D5000 here

So goes the rumor. I'd wait for any form of announcement about a new D90, then if it doesn't float your boat, get the current D90. If I were you I wouldn't get the D5000, it isn't THAT much of an upgrade from the D40. Yeah, it's nicer in every aspect, but if you get more into photography you'll regret it.
