Backflips

who here can do a flatland backflip as in a backflip just standing there no tramp or skis. im workin on getting it down by the end of the summer ie tramps n such. any stories tips or any good areas to first try em

1. Jump straight up.
2. Throw head back.
3. Bring knees toward head.
4. Wait.
5. Put feet back on ground.

But seriously its hard. Try into water off a 3 foot drop a couple times and work on that and eventually with enough liquid encouragement youll just do it one day.

if you have a tramp without a net stand on the metal ring that surrounds the tramp and then backflip onto the bouncy part of the trampoline. When i realized the was easy i grew a pair and tried it on the ground

I used to be able to do a standing gainer from the curb into the street. Now i don't think i can backflip off anything smaller than a low chair. Idk, maybe im just out of shape

try some on the trampoline first without bouncing. then try it on some mats.
i can almost do one, im at the point were i land on my knees most of the time.
and also, dont learn back, get a good jump up and spin in the air.

really depends on your build. A lot of tall people say they're hard, but if you're like be and you're 5'10" and not fat or anything they're not hard.

Go to a gym, and try them on the springboard floors.

i can pretty easily. its hard at first but its easy once you get the hang of it.
1. do it on a tramp
2. do it off diving boards facing the board
3. do it into a foam pit or a mat
make sure to jump straight up, throw your arms back, then your head and then your legs.

they're really easy once you get them down. put your bed mattress on the floor and try them on that. it doesn't really give you much bounce but it gives you confidence. make sure and tuck too

so one of my friends who's a pretty athletic kid, was pretty drunk one time, and decided to try the flatground backflip on some grass ( he can flip park jumps on his snowboard so he knows what hes doin somewhat). he landed it fine and can now do it on command. he never trained for gymnastics or anything, just ballsed up and tried it but he is kinda ridiculous so i dont reccomend just getting drunk and giving it a whirl but it worked out for him

i just watched a ton of youtube tutorials to learn them. here is what i found most helpful...

1.jump straight up

2. i wouldn't recommend trying them off of things, because then you're learning how to flip off of things and not on flat ground

3. get a spotter and go to a gym. springboards are an awesome place to learn them, and if you have a friend who wants to learn them too, you can spot each other. just put your hands behind their back and have them try one, if they're not going to make it then you flip them around to their hands and feet

here's my favorite example video, this guy (jujimufu) kills it now, despite being a total douchebag...

i've been working on this, i can do it without bouncing on the trampoline and with a mat on the trampoline, but i try on flat ground and either don't get enough courage and land on my head, or land hard on my knees

I'm a gymnast(well used to be now i guess but I still go to open gym for fun) so this really isn't fair. Don't mess up and don't shove your hand under your head if you are falling head first, 4 or 5 years ago I shattered a bone in my hand doing a standing backtuck so ...just a word of advise

No no no no. You don't "throw head back", that's how you land on your head noob. You have to set, aka you have to throw your arms up and go up then bring your knees to your chest to flip

The reason the kid in the tutorial failed the first few times was because he lost confidence half way through, and piked out the flip (see straightened leg). Stay committed throughout, and you'll be fine

Alright "sir". Watch the videos where people fall on their faces, they throw their heads back if you watch carefully. And I'm telling you from personal experience and watching plenty of others fail that you will land on your face or head eventually, if you don't then you are lucky.

i'll actually contribute now
i did gymnastics for 5 years or something so i know my shit
1. stand with your feet more or less together, shoulder width at widest
2. raise your arms in front of you so they're straight up by your ears
3. swing them down in front of you, a little bit past being straight down and bend your knees keeping your upper body as straight up as possible
4. swing your arms up as hard as you can and jump, immediately pulling your knees up as you flip
5. do not swing your head back, keep it straight up
6. if you've done it right you should immediately see the ground as if you'd land on your hands and knees so keep the rotation going as hard as you can otherwise you'll land at an angle, hurt your ankles, and fall

you can't halfass this at all because you can hurt yourself
commit fully and put as much power into it as possible
your lower body provides a lot of the rotation and you'll want to have strong legs of course but also good abs and back so you can pull your weight around
