Avchd editing

I am wondering if my computer will be able to edit files recorded in avchd. My computer has 3 gb of RAM, a 2 ghz pentium dual core processor and a 32 gb operating system. Can it handle avchd? Are there any editing softwares besides FCP and Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 that can edit AVCHD natively? Are there any disadvantages to converting it to a different file type? im going to add to this because itll help you too.

anyone know the best way to export avchd? it looks amazing off the camera but once i try to export it out of Final cut its good, but not as good as i want it. Im sure eheath can help us out here

I don't know much about avchd and what you computer wise, you should be okay if you convert the files.


As for you (quoted) how are you importing/editing them? And the best way to export is full quality out of FCP then compress in quicktime pro.

importing them through imovie because log and transfer doesnt like hf200's. Not just my camera, its a known problem. So its .mov. full quality.

im exporting 1920x1080 deinterlace do to it shooting progressive with h.264 codec. I have express so i dont have as many options as id like. this particular footage is shot 17mbps if that helps any. Im lost when it comes to exporting

for $400 more i can get a computer with 16gb of ram versus one with 8. is it worth it or is that just unecessary

8 should work fine, 16's a little overkill

thats what i was thinking. at that point (8gb vs. 16gb) will it even make a difference because it might be worth it for me if it helps.
