Samsung Galaxy S - New hot smartphone?

Saw a commercial and looked this new phone up. Epic display technology, android 2.1 and a 1ghz processor made by samsung specifically for this phone. Some cool features for social networking and a program that lets you use the camera with google and look up say a restaurant you're standing in front of. Also, 5mp camera and 720p30 video. Suppose to come out for all carriers and they didn't list a price(didn't find one but i didn't look that hard) but its prob 150 or 200.

Thoughts on this phone vs droid x, iphone 4 ,etc? Its really similar to the iphone its making me want to get it ha

Looks sick, but I just checked apples website and apparently when you grip it it loses signal strength so I'm going to avoid it.

it;s definitely a great phone, but it also has its cons. i wont list them, because in reality, there are way more pros than cons with this phone. fyi, galaxy s is a series of smartphones, not an actual phone. each american and canadian carrier is getting a tweaked version of their own. for example, at&t has the captivate, t-mobile and bell in canada have the vibrant, etc.

theyre great phones and should do quite well.

AMOLED is the future, my phone has it and it saves so much battery, is brighter, blacks are blacker and its not reflective at all

and dont say its not, engadget already compared these 2 phones, the iphones camera/video quality is better, the screen is a high resolution, it uses a faster processor, ect ect ect

The iphone 4 doesn't even list what there processor speed is, how could you compare it?

And iphone looses to me when i have verizon and id rather have this phone then switch to shitty ATT for a very similar phone.

hate to say it, but they are the same processors. both use samsung hummingbirds.

the a4 was optimized for the iphone so i dont know about its speed. either way, hummingbirds are much better than snapdragons, which is a shame as my soon-to-be desire has a snapdragon.

Once again, you learn something everyday. Apple made it sound like they made their processer. My bad to the dude i called out.

Ive been thinking about getting a smart phone and the droid x looks dope but now this samsung seems to be better.

My one problem with non iphone smartphones is when they try to make the gui look like the iphone. i would rather have something completely different and original.

I've been rockin the X since thursday. Posting on it right now. Definitely a sick phone. Screen puts the iphone to shame. Runs lightning fast right now, and should bump up once 2.2 comes to it.
build quality is rediculous, also.

my x is amazing, its unreal. everyone i show it to wants it. beats out an iphone in my books anyday. swype is awesome too, to makes typing sort of fun. cant expect much battery life out of the newer smartphones. it doesnt bother me, just have to remember and charge it every night.

check out this phone today along with the droid x, very similar phones but i like the real buttons on the droid x and the virtual keyboard is bigger on the droid x (for obvious reasons) and i think im gonna get the X as soon as they are in stock again.

im happy with my cheap phone that does everything i need. have fun with your ball and chain contracts and paying through the nose. ill put the money i save to stuff that ill actually be satisfied spending my money on.

i love my X

my brother has the incredible so ive used both a decent amount, and i really really like the bigger screen of the X seeing as i only use the phone function of the phone >50% of the time.

haterz gonna hate on the size of it, and sure it does look like a sheet of plywood in your pocket but its really not that bad at all.

i would recommend a car charger though, and they can be picked up for less than 7 bucks on amazon. the only complaint i have of the phone is battery, but when the only thing the phone doesnt do is wipe your ass i guess there are tradeoffs.

I could be wrong but regarding the layout of the screen that you guys say samsung is copying off of iphone/itouch: Before the itouch there was a SAMSUNG mp3 player tht was touch and had a layout option like that. I might be wrong though. But honestly, the tiled layout has been around forever on cellphones, way before the iphone. Apple just made the edges rounder and the colors brighter.

Honestly I dont think the size is that big of a deal, just because of how thin the actual phone is. Pretty much as thin as my razer from years ago. I think its barley noticeable in your pocket based on how thin it is.

Regardless of who buys what phone, you guys in the US only have to sign 2 years contracts...up here in Canada is 3 years or bust! Save yourself a shitload that way
