Kendama questions

so my dad brought me back a kendama from china when he was there for a filming his new film and i have a few questions about them when i noticed a couple people here play them.

1. i got a plain kendama, is it possible to paint the ball? and does anyone know what paint to use?

2. what grip do you guys use?

i guess thats it. help is much appreciated, thanks!

Yeah, you can paint the ball with standard spray paint I think, I've never tried but i'm going to have to here soon all my paint is chipping off.

As far as grips go, mix it up, that's how new tricks are found.

get good at all the grips so you can combo tricks, and instead of painting the ball you could draw designs on it with sharpie, i did that to one of mine and it is pretty sick

Please please dont put sharpie on your ball. And you can paint your ball, I have one painted purple. There is pros and cons to different grips, I like juggling with eagle claw though.

don't paint that unless you make it sick man

and grip wise i just use the one where if you're holding the ken straight up with your right hand, your thumb towards you, kinda like a microphone but mainly with the fingers

tama grip (holding the ball) is the place pretty fun. but its way harder to get combos.

hey my summer house is right near wenatchee haha.

why no sharpie though? and will paint make it less slick, cause i hear people complain about paint being slick but nothing would possibly be more slick than the wood one i have.

and i heard someone say nailpolish-that actually seems like it might be a good idea haha, any thoughts on that?

Sorry for the thread jack but where would i go about buying a kendama online? All the places i have looked are either euros (i live in usa) or sold out. Also im not looking to pay for a really nice one just something that i can play around with.

Because sharpie looks terrible, in my opinion. It ruins the natural look and makes it look trashy. Which dama do you have? The Enjyu? Paint will make it stickier if anything. The only problem I can see with the nail polish is not getting smooth even coats. Dude!!! If you ever come over here let me know and we will have a sesh

i have the same wood one as you can see on kendama usa. i think it may be made of beech wood? not sure though. why?

I found a good place based in the US called www.kendama-co.com. It got to my house in like three days and they have a wide selection of colors and let you select the weight you want. And from talking with one of the owners, he is a skier!
