Jeep wranglers

there was a thread about this like 4 years ago so i thought of makin a new one.
im lookin for a wrangler as of the moment but in the last thread some people said that they werent roomy. the last time i sat in a jeep i had a fuckload of room and im big. maybe its just in the older ones. i was just wondering if anybody else has a wrangler and if youve done anything to it.

getting back to my jeep hate, the only good thing in em is the amc 4.0 I6, which is an amc product...

weak axles
shitty wiring
overall low quality

actually chrysler overall doesnt do too well in the quality part.

a chevy 1 ton big block with lockers and 4 10s... id trust that over any jeep.

Yes im sure the FJ can do quite well splashing through a few puddles on the way down to the mall

Outside of that its really not that different from an H3...

Funny thing is, that Jeep looks much more heavily modified than the FJ, and the FJ is being driven by a woman. I wonder if she could take a mini van up that trail?

im gonna have to agree with you on the jeep hate, ive got tons of friends who offroad, and ive been on sooo many offroad trips with them and like 5 other people. and jeeps when compared to most other cars just do not perform that well.

ive 3 friends with jeep's one has a lifted wrangler, he's put probably 3-4 grand into it, one guy has a very heavily modified cherokee, he's put close to 10 grand into it, and another guy with a mostly stock, slightly lifted wrangler.
and ive got 2 friends with landcruisers and one with a tacoma. both land cruisers are stock with bigger tires. one is an 80 series, and one is a 100 series (yes with ifs) and the 80 series has made it up sooo many obstacles that the heavily modded cherokee couldnt, that thing just crawls up whatever the hell you try, and he hasnt broken a thing. which cant be said for any of my jeep friends.
the 100 series isnt quite as good as the modded cherokee, but it does outperform the other wranglers. and again, even with his ifs, and all the times he's jumped the shit out of it, he hasnt broken a thing...

on every offroad trip ive been on with random jeep guy's there hasnt been one jeep that has impressed me much at all.

I love how everyone in here keeps saying that I'm a dumbass, yet provides no definitive proof that a Wrangler is any better than an FJ off road.  In my opinion, yes, OPINION, Jeeps are extremely overrated, and with the exception of the Rubicon, aren't that great on trails.  I'm not trying to say that it's fact, it's just what I've experienced.  Every high school girl drives a basic wrangler with an automatic because they think it makes them cool when they take the doors off.  Stop dangling from Jeep's nutsack and realize that the FJ IS a very capable off road car, and there ARE other, better options out there than Jeep.

Even on an FJ forum they understand that the JK is a bed off road vehicle...toyota went with the IFS so they could maintain highway ride quality (and it rides much better than a jeep on road) but they paid for it in the off road department..you need a straight axle to be takin seriously off road



Skip to about 5:00 to see how "strong and capable" IFS is...

This is my parents 4 door jk- this is the only photo have- It now has a 1 inch coil bump stop lift- making a total of 4 inches of lift- 35 inch version of the same tire- 5.13 gears, River Raider Skids, Rockers, full diff wrap, as well as river raider front and rear bumpers(this shit is quality- fucking amazing fit and finish) as well as an exhaust I built and some jammer intake .

Ill see if I cant find any new pictures of it- but until then- this is last year when it was just a 3 inch bds lift and 33s

Pros- it will go basically anywhere you want to go, its a convertible, it can tow a decent amount, an all around fun vehicle

Cons- horrible ride- anything over 200 miles in a lifted jeep is going to blow, slow( getting on the highway- even with new gears, exhaust and intake is still a bitch), and once you buy one it becomes a money pit

i live in a small ass town where theres nothing to do so i was thinkin i should get a jeep because i wouldnt spend my money anywhere else. im basically sset for next winter so i have some good money on my hands and its building. a couple of my friends around here go mudding and shit like that so i might as well do that instead of sitting inside all day playing videogames.

im gonna have to disagree with that, around here we have lots of sand dunes, and offroad area's that allow for super fast offroading... there are tons of guys around here with 4wd, and rwd desert truck's ive seen a built fj flying around the sand dunes, and when it comes to speed, ifs wins. crawling is not the only type of offroading.
and like i said earlier, my friends 100 series land cruiser, with bigger tires and yes ifs has outperformed even modified wranglers multiple times. i feel like ifs does well when it comes to crawling when you have a mostly stock car, but when you start to really build them alot, then you start to see the advantage of a solid front.

but if i were to build up an offroad car, it would be a 4wd maybe even 2wd tacoma built as a desert truck. there are some super burly ifs setups out there that im sure would hold up extremely well for crawling, probably better than some solid fronts..

get a truck, my 72 gmc, a 4 inch lift is 400 bucks, i bought my truck for 1500, for about 2500 you could be sittin on 37's and still have something semi practical.

Thats actually very true and a good point. I dont live near any type of sand dunes/high speed off road desert trail so i've never been able to experience that kind of offroading

but youre right IFS killlls a SFA on something like that which is exactly why dune buggy/pre runner trucks have IFS and huge amounts of suspension travel..i doubt a SFA could even go half the speed or with half the ease of something with IFS on that type of offroading

Now you're just being silly, any stock toyota truck could do that. I've done it before in like 3 or mine. And who the fuck uses stock radial tires anyway???? man up and spend the dough on some nice rubber first thing.

this is the best picture i have of ours....

if you get one, make sure its a 6 cylinder. ours is a 4 and it tops out at 65 on the highway. but still is great off road. so fun to drive. its like a go kart with a lift

Genius, really two subs and there's still plenty of room??? I can fit a kayak, mountain bike, hiking bag, jack, tools and fluids in the back of my truck and still have plenty of room. You can put a roof rack on anything, how does that make a jeep good?

Here's a pic from one of our wood runs last winter here in PA, nothing major just about 3-400 yards up an incline in a non mowed field with about 6-8 inches of two week old crusty snow. See there's my buddy and his 94 grand cherokee......oh wait that's right he couldn't make it up the field even half way. My truck ain't no monster rock crawler but it will surely go places a jeep wouldn't. He couldn't even make it up in my tracks.

that's pretty funny I'll give ya that. No he's got a regular old cherokee with pretty decent cheap offroad tires, they ain't my toyos but their capable.


well I think it's pretty self explanatory, there is my truck sitting at the top of a field that his jeep wouldn't make it up. I'm not saying my truck could best any jeep by an means, just sayin mine and his are pretty comparable and his didn't make it. Granted I'll give ya that he's on 31's maybe, and I'm sitting on 33's, so honeslty it probably came down to the rubber. he gave it a good shot though. Bottom line, we had to truck split wood with mine to his at the bottom of the hill.
