Laptop help

I have been looking for a laptop for a while because my desktop is very outdated....

I don't have to much cash to spend so please do not say "get a Mac!"

I have narrowed my choices down to the HP Pavilion series ,specificly this model:

it comes with 6gb of RAM but can be expanded to 8gb

it has two choices of graphic cards also

Choices:
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5470 switchable graphics
1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics

I don't know much about computers so thats why I have some questions for you NS computer nerds out there

1.How will this computer perform with editing software and HD footage?

2.Will this computer run videos smoothly ? because my current computer causes choppy footage

3.Is this a good buy or are there better deals out there?

Specs are pretty irrelevant for the most part because unless your into gaming they really will not affect the daily activities you use your machine. I didn't really read through your entire post but it sounds like you just want to edit HD movies correct? Well I am pretty sure that a MBP will be able to do that just fine, in addition the best editing software (Final Cut) is mac only.

You need to take into consideration battery life, look, weight/size, portability, these are in my opinion much more important than some numbers that people don't really know what they mean. And in my opinion a MBP is best in all these categories. There is a reason why there so many mac fanboys on this site, because if your able to afford one you'll love it.

Listen retard, wtf do you use your laptop for? Fucking word documents, internet browsing, and maybe video editing? If you use it for anything else then you should of bought a desktop because your just wasting money otherwise. You do not need a fucking i7 Intel processor in order to those things. You think getting a fucking hexo core processor (which I have in my desktop) makes Chrome work any faster? No. If you need specific specs in order to do something you shouldn't be going on a internet forum asking questions cause you should know what you need already.

Also shitface I never said looks>cpu speed, I said an array of things that should be taken into consideration over just the specs of the computer. So yes I believe that battery life, weight/size/look, and portability are more important then specs of your laptop.

Get your panties out of your vagina. Re-read what you said then tell me my statement was retarded. I use my laptop for a hell of a lot more than you ever would. I don't think I was asking for advice. I know my HP is better than a mac. If you knew anything at all about computers you would not have said, "So yes I believe that battery life, weight/size/look, and portability are more important then specs of your laptop." No wonder hipsters like macs. They get them for the look, not the specs.

honestly, i am highly considering a mac as well, solely because of the battery life. i can not find a 13 inch laptop that gets anywhere near 10 hours on one charge

get the asus g60jx it is the sickest computer and can run anything. i would not go with a mac, they are expensive and from my experience can not run videos well because of the terible procesors, video cards, etc. the asus costs 800.

yea i know the Hp and Asus laptops seem to have amazing specs. that blow away the 13' MBP(which really inst a pro)but somhow evevrybody keep on saying that macs will run better evn if the processor is slower or it has less memory

i am confused

there are people on this site who will no matter what say macs run better. go to best buy and tell them what you want to do. they will show you some models they have in stock and then show you some from their database that are good. thats what i did and i was happy with my purchase.

I did and they knew nothing...he suggested the hp pavilion for video editing and watchig videos and stuff but when i mentioned a mac he said "ohh well macs are the best,but more expensive" without a clear explanation why even though the Hp appeared to have more power

I've had macs in the past. imo downsides are 1. the specs, which does affect video streaming and if you play games. on my mac i would have to wait for the video to download first and then watch it and i could barley watch hd cause my memory and procesors couldn't handle, my new computer can run and hd video while downloading it while running gta 4. and #2. about macs are that the dvd drive always breaks down after 2 years along with other things. i've had about 6 macs in my family and this always happens. the only mac i've seen that this doesnt happen to is the mac that had its hard drive completly erased and fryed. if u go mac the only way to go is macbook pro but that costs a shitload and double the price of an asus that has better stats. i would highly recomend asus, hp, or alienware.

you must have had an inexperienced one. the guy i talked to recomended the asus g73jh-a1, hp envy series, anda few sony vaios. he told me that macs were not worth the extra more for worse specs unless i had my heart dead set on one. keep in mind that going in there i though it was going to be a waste of time because i wanted a mbp.

yeah i have the Sony Vaio FW Series with 6GB upgradable ram, 500GB hard drive, and a 1080p 1080x1920 screen and its working out great for me so far. the only thing i'd change is getting an extra/more powerful battery.

Holy shit and I thought people couldn't be more ignorant. So what do you use your laptop for? Give me one thing that requires your upgraded specs in order for it to function better? So yea be happy with your 8gb of ram which is completely useless, but at least you can brag that you have better specs than a mac, even though you prob paid more or the same for it, and it runs 20x less smooth.

in my opinion the more power you have the more efficiency so why does the mac still manage to run better?

i also have experience with both sides, my macbook has never crashed, never froze up, never slowed down, never got a virus, never needed a system restore, i have ran photoshop cs3 on them both and i have downloaded plenty of media on both. there is a reason i have kept my mac for 3 years

ya and like i said earlier i have kept a macbook for three years. in fact i still do have; it never froze, except when running more than it can handle, like streaming videos on the internet and youriding and such, but pretty rare, never got a virus after torrenting multiple thing and such. this is all true, but i could never stand the fact i couldn't run shit on it and could basically use it for nothing other than internet cause it was so slow on everything. it was a pain waiting 10 minutes to load a single web page when i had a 2.0 mb connection. the dvd drive also completly broke and was inusable after 1 year and a half. I recently have gotten an asus g60jx and have had absolutly no problems with it, none, i also got it with a 3 year accidental warranty so i will be able to have it for three years no matter what. i can run anything i want. the only downsides i can think of is a pc's proness for virus's which is resolved by a 2 $ virus sweep.

ahh this is killing me! do not know what to do

there are people like you who seems to have some knowledge but there are others who are saying if you have the money get a mac

and i watch reviews and stuff and mac os x always seems to open up quicker in the tests and run like 20 different programs at once without crashing and i am not sure if the win7 computers measure up

maybe i am feeling like this because my current computer (compaq sr2002x)is complete shit and it is giving me a bad idea of windows

ya i also had a compaq and it was shit. it got me on macs. but i soon saw aelienwares and asus's and finally decided to get one after i had to personally take apart my macbook and remove the dvd drive cause it had gotten claim stuck in it, stupid dvd drive, and i felt claim was worth more than the computer. i put it back together and it still worked but i knew i needed a new computer because i was valueing my mac to be worth about 20$. i got the asus and it runs perfectly. i could easily run 20 applications at once, my mac can barley run 4. i recomend a pc and i highly recomend asus or alienware(computers i have experience with) because i don't know how well others work, although i have heard hp's run well and toshiba's run well.

i like the HP's and Asus computers but everyone says "Mac! Mac! Mac!"

my mac plain and simple sucked. i could barley do anything with it. it is three years old but i mean it works like it is 10 years old. i can barley stream videos off the internet on a 2 mb connection and can't run games and such. the computer is just slow. i got quad the stats and quad the speed and comfort on my asus that on my macbook which cost 200 dollers more.

Your asking questions that no one knows the answer to. Technology advances at crazy rates, my friend bought a $400 dollar video card 3 months ago and now it has been cut in half in price. I think either of those computers are going to become obsolete around the same time. You keep bringing up specs as if they make or break what machine you choose. For what you want to do with your computer both are going to preform it exactly the same way, it comes down to what else you look for in the machine. Do you not care about battery life, weight, display, durability? Make your choice based on the computer in general not just some numbers.

Remember your buying a laptop, not a desktop. This thing is meant to travel with you, sit on your lap, etc. If you were buying a desktop then yea i'd go with the better specs based on what fits my price range.

just get it at best buy and have a 3 year accidental warranty. but other than that im not positive. im pretty sure both could be done by 3. my mom had a mbp and it slowly stopped working after 2 and a half or so years

sorry, I just want to make the right choice because I am paying for half of the comp. through financing

it is not easy to make 600+ dollars when you are only 14 years old

I would love to save some money on a cheaper comp. Bottom line money usually gets you quality ,so i am baffled at the idea that macs are more expensive then most pc's but something like an asus that is $300 less will outrun a mac

just get a job. i am 14 and have enough money that i earned to buy an hp envy 17-1011nr and hmc40. just work for neighbors, mow lawns walk dogs, and water gardens for people.

yeah I try....I hope i can find a real job and get paid under the table

my cousin is 15 and he gets to dock boats at a lake and makes like $160 every 2 days but often works even more and makes some great cash for a job the not only is he not legally alowed to do but he also thinks its fun

I really hate doing odd jobs because it is not a consistant pay

as far as the mac pc thing, i have a netbook that runs os x and windows. It runs windows natively, but it is faster in os x. video playback and pretty much everything even battery life is better, and this is on the same comp and it didn't originally have os x.

also windows requires maintence to keep it running the same, but i have a 24' imac that i got prbly 3 or 4 years ago that still runs awesome and can handle hd better than my friends new windows laptops

not trying to spread hate and stuff, just trying to show that the argument that macs can run better with less specs is valid
