So I've been shooting a lot of skateboarding this summer...

Title says it all. I've got into shooting skating this summer since a bunch of my friends skate, some pretty well. This thread is just to share, please not that I am very inexperience at shooting skating so critiquing is always welcome. Also I've pretty much been strictly using the fisheye mainly due to the location and size of a lot of skating features.

looking good, looking good! I think with that first one you'd have a stronger shot if the guy was more flush to the camera (like chest facing more so you can see a bit more of the board) I don't know if that makes sense. Also, maybe get a little closer with the fisheye and fill the frame with the guy more?


Are you using a speedlight for lighting?

Yes I am using a speedlite with an Alienbees trigger/receiver setup. I'm still getting comfortable with getting super close with the fisheye, I've been hit with a few skateboards already from getting close so it's a little bit scary to get that close. On the first shot, I wanted to shoot it from the other side of the box but the problem was that my shadow would have run right through the middle of the shot, so I had to shoot from that side. Also any closer on the first shot and I probably would have been touching the box.

Fo sho,

yeah a fisheye is scary sometimes haha. I've taken a snowboard to the chest and been hit by a couple skiers...not fun
