nicely timed with the other threads hahaha, and it doesnt surprise me. Learn the geographic history of NYC, most of it is filled in land and area regained from rerouting water. A ship sank, then was covered with mud, then they build NYC over it.

Reclamation is most prominent in Lower Manhattan, with developments such as Battery Park City in the 1970s and 1980s.[49] Some of the natural variations in topography have been evened out, especially in Manhattan.[50]
they also uncovered a wall that was the original bulkhead before they made the island larger. it runs from a few blocks south of the WTC up to about 59th street i believe. pretty crazy. you can actually see it if you walk by the site but they are in the process of taking it down. its over 100 years old.
