Does the t2i use a firewire cable or does it use usb for video?

USB, or you can use a SD card reader to transfer the files instead of running it through the camera (still USB, but faster/saves battery life)

does a standard sd card fit in it or do i need to buy an adapter?

Regular SD or HCSD (high capacity) cards both work. However, you need to make sure that the SD card you use is at least class 6 or higher (data transfer rating, there is a lot of information to record with HD footage) and probably a decent size (8gb, 16gb, 32gb, 64gb

If you're going to get a t2i you should without a doubt purchase a SDHC Video HD class 6 card as well as card reader. Transferring straight from the camera is more of a hassle in my opinion.

class 4 usually works fine. Ive been shooting in 30, 24, and 60 and havent had any problems - I have a 32 gb class 4. Just dont go any lower than that, or the camera will spazz out and stop recording while you are attempting to record video

^ have you tried filming with the class four for long periods of time?  I had two sandisk class 4s and had the buffer bar allllll the time, and automatically stopped recording a few times.  Switched to class 6 and no problem at all.

well now that you say that, really the longest clip ive recorded has only been about 30 seconds, and I havent had any problems.
