What idiot thought it would be a great idea to build a mosque near or on Ground Zero!? I'm not opposed to Islam in any way but goddamn you would think any guy with half a brain could figure out it would cause a huge shit storm?

Speaking of which, why don't they build the mother of all worshipping buildings; a common place that Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, Jews, and every other major religious group can go to? Say it's a first step toward peace and cultural understanding and I'll bet you no one will have the balls to oppose that.

People who make a big deal out of this are just strait ignorant. I read something about "the respect for those who died". That is crap. Are you saying that we should shun a group of people because someone else that looks like them did something bad to our country?
There is a thing called freedom of religion. There is an able building there that would serve nicely for their purposes. Making a big deal and being paranoid about this is just foolish.

well in defense of the whole "disrespecting" side, there's got to be something to it seeing how most that have been affected by 9-11 ARE against the mosque being built. i say have it be built but i honestly cannot speak for those who are directly involved/affected by this issue... and really i doubt anyone else on this site could. so in the end i believe in freedom of religion but everyone that have a view on this issue that aren't directly related to it (including you), are just talking out of the ass... a crusty, poop-filled, sweaty ass.

no shit. just what i'm saying is that this is a local issue and it should be settled locally. nothing is going to come out of this if the place gets built or not. the big issue is creating this into a massive event through EVERYONE sticking their fucking nose in it making it a huge deal when it shouldn't have gone past a blurb in national news.

first, i think it's reflective of a larger issue, the stigma applied to american muslims, which i think is VERY important, and therefore something that should be discussed and debated, and secondly, forgive me if i misread your post above, but it seemed as though you were giving credence to an argument that, while being logically pleasing to the outside, is really fucking stupid when you look further in, and should not really be discussed while playing devil's advocate.

There's a big difference between tackling issues in a thinktank and ranting on NS...

As for the post above yours, I clicked on this thread thinking it *might* contain something intelligent. I should have known better. My initial post in this thread was a verbalization of the nausea I was feeling at the time.

There haven't been that many rants on here, and in my entire time on NS I personally have only posted on rant.

And whats so different between a think tank and NS? Sure, one has very intelligent people and are paid for it, but overall, its about discussing what people perceive to be issues, and that's what people are doing here.

and you thought it might contain something intelligent? Look at the fucking title, it uses the words "fucking mosque" how many intelligent people do you see referring to places of worship as "fucking ______"

what is the big deal? they have freedom of religion and should be allowed to practice their religion wherever they want.

most of the people don't know that only 1 block away or so from the proposed site people have been praying since 2002, or something of the sorts.

Just know the want to build a mosque for muslims, while the other place was open to many relgions i believe.

uh no its not. ask anyone who doesn't want the mosque built (who isn't a blatant racist) and they will tell you that they know that the attacks were extremists and not representative of all muslim people. all you kids talk about the news/media manipulating the gen. public, well you just fell victim to it... unless you also believed that janet jackson's half-shown tit was a national media crisis and that al gore was really earth's savior, deserved a nobel peace prize and isn't some douche who likes to cum on masseuses' dresses.

ummm... because it doesn't? maybe this will help you understand and i dont agree with this comparison but it gives you an idea of how they feel... some people say its comparative to having a german pride museum down the road from auschwitz or putting a nuclear weaponry museum in nagasaki. its not about the race or people, its about the EVENT and things that may bring up bad FEELINGS about said event. in other terms... say you got raped by a black dude and the next time you see a black dude, you feel uneasy and your ass cheeks tighten... is it because you're racist? no, its something that's triggering memories about a bad event.

I didn't read read a single post after the op's.  The only thing that has to be said here is this: 

The Constitution can not be up to interpretation on a case by case basis.  To do so is completely unacceptable and illegal.  The Constitution is the law of the fucking land.  Deal with it.  Can you be offended as hell by a Muslim oriented community center being built 2 and a half blocks away from the grave site of 3,000+  people who were supposedly killed in the name of Islam?  Yeah, sure go ahead.  Get pissed off and rage the fuck out!  It's your right.  But legally they can build whatever they want as long as they have the dough stacks and zoning permits. 

Any judge who tries to pass ruling against the building of this in my opinion should be tried for treason.  End of story.

Well you would expect that after 911 that there would be churches built near the sit right? i mean I can understand that. honestly, I don't care what is built NEAR there.  It's scary how much the news agencies try to push our fears and judgement.

and to the asshole who said no one on this site was directly affected by 9/11, that is really insensitive.  Define "directly affected" please.  I don't know anyone who personally was killed, but having to consult a friend whose father died, I feel pretty damn affected.  Our country suffered a tremendous tragedy, respect those who actually felt hurt and saddened by it, whether or not they "knew" someone who was taken.

It's cute you think America is now run by Muslims. Fact it is controlled by rich, white men just like it always has been so no need for you to worry.

Moving on, The War on Terror is a war with no specific beginning, no end and no specific enemy. We are "spreading democracy" just like Cortez "spread Christianity" to the Aztecs and our ancestor's so graciously did to the Native Americans. We are using the excuse of bringing them into the 21st century with new technology and increasing their infrastructure and trade to rob them of their natural resources just like early colonialists did.

The War on Terror is very profitable for a handful of families and it also lulls us into complacency by keeping us in a sense of fear while dividing us from our brothers based on issues of race and religion. It is a win-win for the rich white men in charge.

Muslims hardly run anything in this country but your corner stores. The "mosque" or "community center" is an effort to bridge the gap between Muslim and white America. It would send an image of cooperation and acceptance to the rest of the world if anything. Not weakness, the world knows we are an incredibly powerful corporate empire.

Being ignorant isn't a crime, you are only responible for what you know. However in the "golden age of technology" it is your responsibility to educate yourself.

They're building it there for effect, they specifically chose that place because they knew this would ensue. Explain to me how some poor imam now suddenly has 100 million dollars to build a giant mosque, "islamic learning facility", whatever you want to call it. It could be interesting to find out who his financiers are, I wouldn't be surprised if a good amount is coming straight from the Arabian peninsula. Especially now, it'll be quite easy really to find rich arabs who want to contribute, mainly for what it symbolizes.

The fact that they're building it there for the reason stated above is why I oppose it. Even the choosing of the name "Cordoba house" is symbolic and significant.

Oh yeah and I'm not one to theorize with no hard facts but have you guys even watched all the raw video from 9-11? I know it's really sad but there are lots of videos and watching them is enlightening. Not to mention comparing it to the same "plane crash" in the pentagon that day and comparing the damage. Muslims had nothing to do with it besides that's what religion the supposed terrorists that committed the crime were. Bin Laden, trained by the CIA, residing in Afghanistan.

When christians commit crimes we don't automatically associate it with their religion. As yourself why it's not the same for Muslims.

simple solution: move mosque to different location. the people who are asking to push the mosque here are not thinking clearly. theres no law that says that you cant put it there, but theres also a law that says no loud music after 11pm. this doesnt mean you play music intil 10:59.

I had a life awakening and went to a camp for a few weeks this summer where I learned what to do when the Islamo-fascists make their move in the future.
