DETROIT (CBS/AP) The next time you ignore a call from your kid's teacher who is trying to schedule some time to "talk"... consider this.
A Detroit-area prosecutor wants lawmakers to pass an ordinance that could jail parents for up to three days for repeatedly missing scheduled parent-teacher conferences.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy says such an ordinance is aimed at making parents responsible for their children's education, which may keep more young people out of trouble.
She's still working on the details of her plan, but says it could go before county commissioners next month.
Worthy also is considering whether to approach state lawmakers with the idea as well.
Civil libertarians say her plan may be outside the law. Challenges are expected.
Republican Kentucky state Rep. Adam Koenig submitted a similar bill last year that gained little acceptance and failed to make it out of committee.
TELL US WHAT YOU THINK: Should parents face jail for missing meetings with teachers?
ridiculous and there is many more sources.

i actually think this is a good idea. if kids are having a problem at school parents should know about it about it.

idk about jail time. maybe a fine or something. if the kids fucking up in school and acting out and the parent wont take responsibility then they should have a punishment

this isnt something the law should be involved with, at all. if the kid is doing something illegal, then yes, but if its just normal innocent trouble like it is 99% of the time in elementary school then the school can suck it.

i'm guessing a problem child in inner-city detroit is not committing normal innocent trouble....

so to get the parents involved... theyre putting them away and taking them from the child?

So now the child that is already misbehaving will either live in foster care, or with a relative, making his life even worse. He will then grow up in pain and torture, and probably join a male pop group. They will have a top billboard hit, and be on tour. After their 12th show he will murder everyone in the group, but disguise it as a drug overdose. He will then proceed to use the death of his band members for reason to get addicted to drugs himself, causing his body to break down. He will then go on celebrity rehab, get cured, and at the ripe young age of 55 he will get married, to a 18 year old in Vegas. He will then die of a heart attack at the age of 67 due to too much buffalo jerky and sex in the back of his van.

forcing parents to be involved in their children's education is a good idea but jail is not the way. Maybe if they miss a certain number they can have a social worker visit the kids house and work with the parents until they go to a parent teacher conference

The only gypsy I ever met told me that I don't give her a dollar she would blow up the bus I was getting on. I pretended I didn't understand English, so she said it in french (I was in France) and I pretended that I didn't know french. Then she just put her hand out, and I left.

Jail is never the answer. Maybe rape. But jail, no never.
