UPDATE Bump....
So we began injecting yesterday as you'll of seen on the news.... the well is now controlled statically - i.e (at NS Intellect level speak) the weight of the column of drill mud from the surface all the way down to the downhole elevation that the mud column has forced the oil in the bore back down the hole (im not sure of this depth, it's probably all the way.... there was only ~2000 bbls of oil in the well bore....) is now creating a greater hydrostatic pressure then the reservoir pressure forcing oil up.... i.e. it's now positivley balanced - and stable. In theory, you could open the valves on the surface and nothing would happen.... the well is now controlled.
A decision will be made in the next few hrs as to wether to follow this in now with Cement... effectively killing the well permanently. I personally think they will follow this course of action given the overnight success with the bullheading.
Im not sure what the status of the Annulus is, but that will still be drilled out by the relief well and cemented also.... but, trying to not get too ahead of myself, this could be over.....
You're right...
But there are a few variables and uncertainties that still need to be monitored in terms of measuring the response from the well via pressure gauges etc... we also need to know if we have put mud into the Annulus or just the bore or both... so will run some more models. See what impact the cementing would have on the existing infrastructure etc to be sure....
I expect the descision (being made about now) will be to cement it, at least the bore. The relief well will then intersect and cement the annulus also to be 100% secure.
The well is now controlled, not just contained... that's the important thing... it's no longer out of control, and in essence, back where we were a few hours before the original blow out. Now, we'll maintain the static control of the well until it's fully killed...
and as usual - you do actually know what's up.... but we've learnt a lot about the injectivity of the well. I think the face is pretty fucked up from the unabated flow over the last few months... that said though, absolutely hee haw sand was being reported from production on the enterprise... zip sand, zip water.... kin hell of a producer!! lol.
I'll know more shortly so will send you a message with the details dude....
