Anyone heard anything new about Vail possibly buying it? I looked online this morning, but I was wondering if anybody has been reading up on it.
Thanks.

When my dad worked for vail ( a year ago) there were no such thoughts. I wouldnt put it past rob(CEO) though. he does stuff like that.

for some reason i cant open the link but I read an article last week that the guy who owns the resort that the winter olympics are being held at is in talks to purchase Whistler.
At least they have experience operating ski resorts as opposed to a private equity firm coming in and buying it purely as a real estate asset.

that guy that runs that resort (sochi) used to be a VP at vail. but the owners are actually oil guys in russia. so they for sure have the money to do that

I wouldn't be surprised, Intrawest is fucked. They sold copper to the same company that owns Killington and Park City. That sale fucked their triple pass (Winter Park, Copper, Steamboat) and they're losing a ton of customers to the Summit 5 now, especially because Winter Park and Copper are pretty much alone, whereas copper is right in Summit County.

Rob Katz can't be all that much of a douche. I have a buddy that works at Vail and he said that he paid back the amount of money that they cut for 401K matching for the last year for employees. He also made available the Epic Pass, which is an awesome deal. Before the Epic Pass, if you wanted to ski Vail and Beaver Creek you had to either work for the mountain, get a merchant pass by working in Eagle County, buy an $1800 dollar pass, or get the Colorado Pass, which only gave you 10 combined days at Vail or Beaver Creek. Now anyone in Colorado can ski unlimited days at 5 mountains (Vail, BC, A-Basin, Keystone, Breck, and Heavenly) with an Epic Pass that is around $600. That's a really good deal and that would have never happened with the old CEO.
But cutting pay sucks.

Sorry, but for those people who don't have a 401K it hurt. I'm really glad that the Epic Pass is a great deal, but you need to take care your employees first.

Pretty sure the epic pass is clever marketing, and a money-making scheme, rather than the CEO doing it out of the goodness of his heart.

Yea, you are right. However, you can't deny it's a good thing when it becomes much less expensive for countless thousands of skiers to get a pass. I guess you are right that it doesn't necessarily make him a douche or not.
And I am sure the paycuts were completely necessary. Vail does no one any good if they go out of business. And from what I have heard, they were temporary until they turned things around. But I could be mistaken on that point.

Im doubt Vail is hurting for any money. Im pretty sure they just bought out all the Colorado Ski and Golfs...

No Vail resorts has tons of money, while Intrawest (owner of whistler) has very little money

They sell sooooo many Epic Passes it's unbelieveable. I'm glad they are selling a shit ton.
I'm just sayin'... Vail Resorts, Inc. has a lot of money AND Rob Katz got a raise when my pay was cut. How does that make any sense?
In Summit County, getting paid $9.75 an hour is not the best to live on. Of course after I paid $375 to take my Cert 1 test I then made $10.75 an hour... a lot better, but EVERY cent counts. I'm hoping they give me $11+ an hour next season. It will be my third season.
I LOVE my job, but give me a little somethin'-somethin' to get me excited about the coming season.

I dunno. Vail Resorts has a lot of money to invest. Keystone wouldn't be what it is now without Vail Resorts.
