What type of camera should I get?

Hey NS. I'm going out to hood this weekend and I figured I would need a camera to capture the stuff im going be doing. As with me going to college this next year (no where near any mountains) ( thanks mom and dad) the only memories ill have of skiing is the ones i will capture with the camera im going to be getting within the next day or two.

Im thinking of a DSLR would be the best bet?
Ive heard great things about the Canon T2i

any feedback of those would be great.

and I would be using this camera primarly for still shots so not just video
my price range is as follows: 750-1000 dollars

i would say go for the t2i its a good camera for the price you could get a refurbished 50d body for about the same price but it doesn't do video and you will have to buy a lens for it but that would probably put you over 1000

I'm almost postive the T2i does video, Ive seen numerous amounts of edits of what I think is a T2i.

Correct me if I'm wrong

He said the 50d doesn't do video. The t2i definitely shoots video. Just make sure you don't use the shitty kit lens and buy some real glass if you go that route.

The kit lens is a good lens for people who are just getting into photography it's good to learn on but you can't really get a good lens for under 400

yes you can. my #1 prime at the moment is a $120 Pentax 50mm. There are definitely gems out there; you just have to do your research. What you mean it say is "you can't really get a good factory lens for under $400."
Hell, my $20 55mm helios destroys the kit lens in every aspect.

The t1i isn't awful, a fairly decent DSLR camera, get a Nikon 10.5 fisheye and you will be able to get sick stills and good video.

yes, its a very high quality crop sensor fisheye and it will just cost around 12 more dollars to add a nikon to canon adaptor to your cart

i'd say get the t2i for photos if thats your biggest focus. As for video though, i wouldn't recommend a t2i if you are new to video. and by new to video i mean not experienced with manual settings and post-production workflow.

Other way around mostly, the T2i is not a great SLR camera, the real plus about it is the video.

yeah the video is the plus, but what i was getting at was that he seems like her just wants to buy a camera to document the trip and i wouldn't reccomend an hddslr if you don't have prior video experience. you can shoot photos in full auto from the gate, but perfecting it's video mode takes some practice and prior knowledge of film.

for under 1000, you won't hve a HDDSLR setup for video thats very adequate.
