use staples.
and i don't know what type of carpet you are using and where you are putting it, but know that normal carpet is not nearly as fast as turf. i originally had carpet covering my entire setup when i first made it. (setup was all scrap wood and i had scrap carpet so i tried it as to not spend any money at all) massive speed issues, even with soap and water. could barly get onto the rail starting from 6 feet up. my advice to you is put on the carpet first, but DON'T SCREW IT IN!!!!! put in a few staples, just to get it on. test it, if it works, tighten that mother fucker on there. if you have speed issues, you gotta take it off and go buy some turf. but you can use the old carpet as your landing because that works perfect.
