Reasonable ways to convince your parents

Alright who out there is in high school and there parents let them drink and how did that come about. I want a reasonable way to pose it to my parents. Im thinking about telling them that its time for me to start making my own decisions, any help?

i dont know too many parents who outright let their kids drink all they want. most of the parents i know realize thats kids will be kids and drink and have sort of accepted it. my parents say that they will never be ok with me drinking, but whenever i come home drunk there are never consequences so it works out well

Just tell them you drink, thats what i did and mine are fine with it. I don't even remember how it came up, but unless your parents are really strict or something it probably won't be a real big deal.

having an older brother really helped me out. he had already broken the ice so when i came around they were kinda expecting it and didnt care too much once i turned like 17 or something

where would they rather have you drinking - a place that they don't know of or who you're with, hiding it from them where IF you were going to have a serious problem for say, alcohol poisoning, you wouldn't tell them and have a kid die because you were afraid to get in trouble.

OR

a place where they know where you are, who you're with, and if you were to have a serious problem, but chances are you don't, you can go to them for help

so ya just try to show them how responsible you are i guess, cus they know that alcohol=bad decisions, so they just gotta know that you wont go out there and do something really fuckin stupid

If they don't let you drink as it is, I am sure there is little you can do to convince them.

I would even say to say that it would be plain disrespectful. There is a reason that they don't want you to drink, and they might not like you questioning them.

Don't get me wrong, I plan on breaking my kids in well before college, but I want you to see both sides of the coin.

My dad doesnt really care at all but my mom does. For instance when i am in germany my dad lets me have a few beers here and there. but my mom doesnt really want me to drink. Then again i am 14 so its a little different than coming home drunk after a party.

After my first semester in college I just asked my mom to buy me a case and she did it without any problems. Guess she just kinda understood the situation.

Well the other night I came home at 2:30, my curfew is 11:30 and my dad just said that was bullshit and he wanted me home at 12:00 from now on. I think he suspects that I do it also my friends got caught smoking and I was in the car and he just told me that he thinks im headed down the right track and he would rather wait for me to go to college to try that stuff. I really think if I had a reasonable conversation with him I could get a lot more leeway. Plus I am going into my junior year and I have a 4.0 GPA

i've always been a responsible kid and level headed about shit so i've built up my parents trust so they don't give a shit now

they trust that i won't do anything really stupid

it worked for me, but i may be in a different situation then you.  all i said was

Hey, it all depends on how responsible you are.. im 15 going on 16 in 7 days (claim).. i have a good job, i have my own mode of transportation (50cc scooter) and i dont get into trouble and most of all i do good at school.... Those things made my understand i was responsible enough to drink.. during the school year i get drunk like once a month and during the summer i get drunk twice a week and when i come back home drunk and my parents arent sleeping yet they ask me what i drank and i just always divide the number of beers i had by 2 which makes it seem alot worse to them

I would tell them that it's best to learn how to party before you are let loose at college. I've had to hide my use all of my life, and I can't begin to tell you the things I get into now. (bout to start Junior in Undergrad)

This worked for me with my mom, my dad has never cared (divorced parents):

I got a ride home from my friend late at night and my mom was already asleep so I just crashed. In the morning, my mom asked me where my car was. I said I was drinking last night so I got a ride home from a friend. Not only was she not mad, she gave me a ride to my car. If you let them find out you're drinking through a responsible action, they really can't be mad at you (at least from my experience). Just don't let them find out from the cops, then you're fucked.

im 17, my parents have come to the points where they sort of understand (i had two older brothers) and that there is no stopping it without completely wrecking my social life....
parents will accept it at some point

I have an older brother and sister and my brother smoked a ton of weed and partied a lot and still wAs the validictorian of his class in hs and is at georgetown right now. My brother did what he wanted and my parents were chill because he still slated school and had an awesome job and never drove home waisted or anything. My sister, however, has been caught about 4 times by cops and got suspended for two days for getting waisted on a school trip with a bunch of people. My parents freak out all the time at her and skeetch on her social life. Moral of the story is that you just have to prove you're responsible somehow. Seeing as i'm like my brother and can still do awesome in school with 5 ap's and all that jazz my parents trust me and have told me yhat as long as I keep it under control and tell them I'll be doing it. I can. However I'm 15 so they say that for when I tell them I'm going to parties when I'm older and go to more legit parties

In a nicer way, I pretty much told my parents that I'm either going to get alcohol from a boot or whatever, or they could buy it for me. My parents are good though, as long as I'm honest with them about what time I'm going to be home, where I am and if I've been drinking or not, they really don't give a shit.
