alright so this may sound like an extremely retarded question (and i think it is), but I'm visiting the breck/copper/vail area over christmas breck winter, and im wondering if there are any good spots for some backcountry jumps (or if there are certain spots where there almost always is one). i know theyre sick for learning new stuff into pow so im just wondering how I might be able to find/build some since ive never been out to CO before. thanks guys.

no real experience in the backcountry around those parts, but I'd say Vail Pass is a good bet.

I fourth that, good luck getting the help you need. Maybe regional's or just ask some locals while your out there, I'm sure they know all the best spots.

loveland pass had a few this year. if you're not familiar with colorado it is the pass to get to abasin and keystone from i70.

I'll be in Vail for xmas too, my family lives out there, so my cousins know Vail/Beave extremely well. I'm sure they could show us around if you wanna come shred.

trip claim thread? jk. i went to abay last year and you can hike the north wall? if i remember right? but you could probably build something near the top. also is you pay $5 at keystone a cat will take you up top and you can hit backcountry. you might be able to build something there too. no clue though.

If the only reason you want to hit a backcountry jump is to learn new shit thats kind of stupid considering Vail has an air bag all year...

Nah that's not the only reason, they just look fun as hell and being from the east I've never gotten to do anything like that. But I also didn't know vail had a bagjump all year, ill have to check that out too

I would go up on Vail pass, and there are a few small knolls that you can build 10-20 footers right off of I70.
I wouldn't go into the BC without avi gear and stuff, and this sled spot seems like it would probably work pretty well, i've been contemplating going and building something there for a while now.

True that on the avi gear. Also i don't know if you have ever built a jump in rocky mtn powder. TAKES FOR EVER. and at least 3-5 people helping. enjoy the park, hopefully powder, and large mtns here. Don't expect to go huckin in the bc without sleds and some people helping out. And loveland pass is hit or miss and if there is a jump there the landing will be packed out and more than likely onto ice

yeah man, he hit it right on the nose, ski some park, if you're lucky, ski some pow. Also the time you want to go snow stability is the worse it gets all year - but we do usually get a lot of snow around then.

Only Ski Club Vail is allowed to hit that.

Kinda is? Really is. Most of the members of ski cub vail are not from colorado. Just rich assholes from Texas or NJ.
